This project is taking a bit more time that I expected. I've built the base and have begun working on the cover to flush mount the amps and crossovers. The DVD changer will slide into the little "garage" in the center.
Nothing special, just carpet. I do plan to have the crossovers face at a slight angle. This rack will bump right up against my stealthbox and I want it all to match. I may add a c5 emblem between the amps, in front of the crossovers just to finish it off.
Interesting. I'm in the middle of this process right now. Similar setup-two jl audio amps, crossovers, alpine cd/mp3 unit. Only difference is I plan to have my cover mount about 1/2 way down the amps rather than flush with the top to improve convection cooling. Are you using any fans?? If so, any favorites for quietness.
Also, this may be common knowledge (or an incredibly bad idea), but I've epoxied 10 3/8" nuts to the fiberglass cover over the fuel tank (I've got a C5 vert). Bolts through the base of amp rack can then be threaded in to hold the rack down. Then amps can be bolted to the base of the rack. Probably wouldn't stop a determined thief but it will sure slow him down.
When you carpet the lid, do you take it right to the edge where the amps show through, or do you carpet around to the back so every viewable area is carpeted?
I was thinking about taking it to the edges, then painting the "exposed" MDF black. My plan is to have ~1/4 inch between the amp and the lid. That way, carpet would not be in contact with the hot amp.

Good job, my jigsaw skills are lacking.
Have you tried using a RotoZip tool to cut wood? It looks it a RotoZip would be more accurate for cutting small holes. They also make a circle cutting adapter for the RotoZip.

I allow for the thickness of the carpet on both sides when I cut the openings, then wrap the carpet around the edges. On a square opening, you cut an "X" from corner to corner. This leaves a small edge at each of the 4 corners that need to be filled in. The carpet is very forgiving and matches itself well when you "fill in the corners".
Here are some of the latest pics I have. Over the weekend, I'll show you what I'm talking about in detail.
This is a pic of the front of the cover. I wrapped the carpet around the edge for the opening of the DVD changer.
