Luv, you might have made my day. I've been asking on other forums which tweeter setup and which type, silk or metal I should get. I wanted to do just what you are doing and everyone told me no, because it lowers the impedence and alters your crossover point. Here's the question. When you added the enhancement set did your sound coming from just the comps change at all ? I want to get either the CDT Image enhancement set or one of these JL tweets... http://www.woofersetc.com/subcatmfgp...4&1=319&2=1094 Which one do you or anyone recommend that I get ?

Any additional speakers (regardless of how they are wired) will change the overal impedance. There are two thoughts I had about this.

Since Luv wired the IE tweets with the main tweets, they are receiving the exact same frequency signal as the main tweets. However the lower impedance could have shifted the crossover point sent to the main tweet. So the cutoff relationship between the woofer and tweet(s) has been altered. I doub't this would be detectable however.

The other option would have been to wire the IE tweets from the amp directly, into the IE crossover. This would not modify the main comp. set relationship, but unless the IE crossover points are exactly the same as the main comp set (doubtful), there could be a noticable "bleeding" of frequencies.
So then do you think it would be ok for me to get the IE kit and wire them like Luv into the tweeter connection on my Koda crossovers ? Do you think it would alter my Koda comps sound for the worse or that would be a good way to get some better IE tweeters in my a-pillars ?

Mixman, If it did change anything, it's nothing that I can hear with my ears. It sounds really good to me. I've never heard the JL tweets, so I can't answer that question, but I think, for the money, the IEK can't be beat. I did buy both types of tweeters from The Zeb and tried them both. They have a 14 day return policy, that I took advantage of.

I don't know that much about hooking up a system, as this was my first one, but I figured that it's only wires, and if by hooking them up where I did would've screwed something up, it's only more wire to run, and some of my time, but it sounds great to me. You could always buy the CDT Sat 560 cross overs, they have an additional terminal to wire the IEK built right in, but I thought that basically I did the same thing.

http://www.thezeb.com/detail.aspx?ID=1128

They appear to be a high quality unit, but I was too chicken to mix/match the comps and the crossovers. I hope that this helped.

Luv, I cant tell from the pic, but what color are they ? I hope they are not silver as they appear to be in those pics. A guy on another forum is selling the TW/19 titaniums for $40 shipped. That's a good deal, huh ?

Mixman, I've got some bad news for you then. Yes, they are a silver/grey color, but don't look bad. They blend pretty well up there. If the ones for sale for $40 have the attenuator, then that's a good price, but the new ones are $50, and have free shipping. Plus, if you buy them new, and don't like them, you have 14 days to send them back. Just my .02

Here's my dilemma. I want the CDT TW19 titanium tweets but the silver grey thing is killing it, not because I am against silver grey, but I want the install to be as stealth and blend in as much as possible for security reasons. The CDT silks supposedly do come in black but Luvmyc5 preferred the titaniums.
Or I could just get these... http://www.woofersetc.com/subcatmfgp...4&1=319&2=1094 I want to get something today. What to do ?????????

That's just what I like, it doesn't mean that you'll like the Ti's. It depends on the type of music that you listen to. I think that the silks would sound good with some jazz or some R&B. I like the brightness of the Ti's because I like to hear the cymbals crashing, and to me it adds more depth to the music that I listen to (which is Guns N Roses, Rush, classic rock stuff, and some grunge stuff, and also, some country stuff like Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, and a whole lot more stuff, but just to give you an idea).

As far as the color goes, it doesn't really jump out at you, but you could always mount them in a different spot, either on the pillar, or in the door pulls as some have done. You never know, you might like the silks better anyway.
Good Luck!

Thanks Luv. I ordered the titaniums today. I called CDT and they said their best blending tweeter was the TW19 titanium tweet. I listen to all sorts of music from Nas to Metallica. I sort of think of it the opposite way when deciding which tweets are best. I think the titaniums are better for Hip Hop and R&B because there isn't as much high end in that music so the titaniums can make the high end sound more full. I think silks are better for metal because it will mellow out already sizzling cymbals on some metal tracks, therefore balance out the sound. That's just my crazy opinion.

You're probably right! I know that they sound really good for the type of music that I listen to though. In my opinion, I think that you made a good choice, and won't be sorry!

Those are all sweet locations, anyone RTAed these (locations) to see if there is a flat response? Just curious, SQ is the hardest part of a stereo installation.

My customer RTAed my last install with the Crystal Titanium tweeters mounted on the bottom of the "A" pilar pointing up at the windshield. We mounted the Crystal CSC 6.5 mids in the doors and two Xtant X1244s in a custom enclosure in the back. With an Alpine head unit and 3 Xtant amps and very little tweeking, we got a very flat response.

The way that I mount the Tweets in the "A" Pilar is to peal the stock vinyl back from the bottom of the post, drill my hole that will receive the recessed mounting cup. Skuff the surface with 80 grit sanding disc, using fiberglass reinforced bondo, I create a flat surface at the base of the post arount the speaker hole. After letting it harden, I sand it smooth, spray 3M upholstery adheasive and restreach and staple the original vinyl back over the post. then cut an "X" in vinyl covering the hole and press speaker mounting cup into place. It looks factory and moves the sound stage up giving really good imaging.

Having a "flat response" is great for a IASCA event in the RTA department but most of the time, a flat response sounds like crap. Many set-ups have different settings in a digital processor for that reason. For instance, my white Talon has a RTA, SQ, and SPL setting for competing.

Would it make any difference if I told you that everyone that has listened to it (especially the owner) have been quite pleased with the sound quality?

no
I wasn't attacking your system at all. Everyone has different tastes. Thats why we buy Corvettes and others buy Fords
The car is just extremely hard to get quality sound in. The path lengths are next to impossible to get equal (without expensive processors and tuning).
The outside noises are always changing, with other car noises and road speed.
That is why I believe we need to compensate and not have a flat response curve.
