A rookie here in the whole business of auto electronics and need some help before I go buy the equipment. I heard that if we replace the stock stereo, we would also need to replace the BOSE speakers. I'm thinking about putting in a video/dvd system without having to modifying too much in the car. Does the stock cd stereo have any inputs that I can connect an external source to such as a dvd changer or a external dvd player?
I'm thinking about getting lcd visor screens which I will connect to a external dvd player. Just wondering if it was possible to connect the dvd player to the stock stereo so I can keep the sound and speakers. Please let me know if this is possible and if this is a stupid idea. The previous owner of the car also installed a JL sub woofer in the compartment in the back with a generic type amp, just some information in case if it is a factor or not. Would really appreciate the help from you pros out there. Thanks.
puputray....what you are asking can be done. I am pretty sure you can get an adaptor that will allow you to hook an aux input to your factory radio through the CD changer port. So yes you can keep all factory equipment. On the flip side you will have to add a DVD player somewhere else in your taking up what little space we do have. Now there are several companies making very small 12v dvd players. Another option would to use an all in one indash video screen and dvd player. This option being the most expensive it will also be the most convient as in use...since the screen will be centered and the dvd inserts in the front. So you do have several options depending on the direction you would like to take with your car.
Thanks, I do realize that adding in a external dvd player will take up space, but I think adding in a whole new sound system with an in dash dvd/lcd will be too costly for me. I found small enough dvd players that take a 12v source as well as dvd changers that may help as well. Thanks for confirming my little plan and hopefully I can get it going. If anyone else have any advice or tips, please let me know.
Checkout logjam electronics, they carry a PIE cd changer interface that gives you an RCA aux input to the stock Bose. I have one & it works REALLY well:
