Strange wiring problem
I installed my amp, wiring kit and all and it worked perfectly fine for 2-3 months. Then one day, no sound. Amp wasn't getting any power. (radio still works) So I pulled out my meter and I was only getting about 3v's to the amp. I did some checking and I had 12v's+ on one side of the fuse at the battery and very little at the other. I don't know why, but my "fix" was to redo the wire and retighten the allen set screw that held it in place even though it appeared to be making great contact. Put it all back together and it worked fine for another month or so. Now, today, I get in the car after work and it's dead again. I haven't checked but I'd almost bet it's the exact same problem. I know I don't have power to the amp at this point as it's not lighting up. I don't understand why I'm having this problem in the first place. All connections are tight and the wire going to the fuse holder is SMASHED by an allen set screw holding it in place, yet it's making NO CONTACT? How can that be? I've never seen anything like it. Anyone have any clues short of just replacing the whole fuse holder with a new one?
Local Earmark pointed me to the problem: The solder on the inside of the fuse was bad and the fuse came apart on the inside. Still looked good but when I went to pull it out it came completely apart. :mad
Replaced the fuse and all is well. (for now, same fuse package, may need to get some more
)
