New to the vette world, as I've owned 30 or so fbodys, and I'm needing thoughts on this stereo system. I've done a ton of systems myself, but I'm not digging tearing into the 98 vette that I just picked up. My Pioneer HU from my SS will fit, but I'm wondering if the Soundgate is the way to go for now. I'm just hoping to get marginally better sound that the GM HU, so all experiences with the Soundgate GMCRV1 is appreciated. I have everything on the shelf in the garage to do a full system, but I'd rather be driving!
I use the Soundgate. It is not too bad if you turn the base boost on the harness all the up. I am running an Alpine 9827 with the soundgate and stock speakers. It is not as good as a 1000 watt custom install, but I think it sounds better than the stock head unit. I can now play mp3 cds and use the AUX input for NAV and computer.
I did my research and took my bruises by first getting the PAC OEM1, which doesn't save the entire speaker range, I now am convinced the Soundgate will do the trick after a lengthy discussion with a knowledgeable Soundgate tech who explained to me in nitty gritty detail how the Bose/ GM audio setup worked and how the Soundgate did its thing........
Thanks for the help folks. I did the PAC OEM1 in my SS and it really sucked. Afterwards I learned that wires were crossed from the factory on the harness. That should tell us something!
