Default finished new system install, One question though.

I just finished intstalling my new stereo system in my 85 C4. I've only have one question for everyone, of which I am a little embarassed to ask :o . Where is a good place to ground my AMP? I have it mounted in the back of the hatch.

For those that may be interested my new system consist of:

Back: Infinity - 9603i 6X9's
Doors: Infinity - 6002 si 6.5's
Dash: Infinity - 4002i 4's
Hatch: 2 Infinity - 1030 w subs
A Pillar - Some old tweeters (can't remeber the brand)
AMP: Infinity - 7540a 4 channel
Deck: Panasonic CQ - C8400

It was time to replace the old bose system I know Infinity isn't the best but for some reason I really love their sound quality.

The system I just pulled out was grounded to the bracket that is under the dash on the drivers side under the dash close to the door. Not sure if you can see it with out taking out the cover.

Yeah, you can see a little bit of it with the cover on. I am very familiar with that bracket. My gauges are grounded their I was thinking of using the seat mount but I really want to find something closer to the rear of the car. Thanks for the idea though.

I find Infinity to be one of the best speakers. I think they are tops with music that has alot of instruments you can hear. I don't think they are good with hip-hop type music though. I just put a set in my C5 today. So I am a little biased. My last set were Polks and I liked those also.

shouldn't you try to ground your amp within 6-12 inches of the amp?

I mounted mine on the rearmost vertical panel. I drilled right through the floor of the rear compartment. There are plenty of bolts to run your ground to the frame. If you remove your spare tire carrier and remove the inside carpet you can see both sides of the floor and where you need to drill to miss any obstacles.

In an ideal situation, yes. But, unfortunately our fiberglass Vettes pose a little problem with available grounding points. On my C4 I ran the ground all the way back to the battery, the amp is behind the drivers seat, so it's only about 6 or 7 feet.

I will try that. Thanks for the idea.

WOW!!! I had no idea that so many people liked infinity stuff. About the hip-hop comment. I would have to agree with you but if you mount the speakers in sealed inclosures they do pretty good. Every now an then I like to list to a little hip hop but most of the time it is country, instumental, 80's and 90's music. I know I know. I'm pretty boring for 25

The debate of electrons flowing from positive to negitive or negitive to positive is not over. For instance, in the USAF we are taught from positive to negitive but in the USN it is taught from negitive to positive
So...if you have equal lengths of the same guage wire you are covered and will have zero noise caused by a bad ground.
Finally, the Corvette is the only car I have done it this way (so far). Reason being is the aluminum and fiberglass. It makes sense to use a short ground because of the high cost of large guage wire when dealing with a "normal" car.

I grounded mine on the rollbar or "halo" or whatever you call in on my 84. I used the same bolt that the rear defrost uses to ground.
