I wouldn't use the compartment itself as the enclosure....best to build a box and put it in there...either way, the volume in there is good for a 10" sub

My driver side is filled with the ABS valves and stuff so I had to use the passanger side and fit a 10" flush to the carpet. Right now it is open in the compartment and doesn't work that well. Some day I plan the try and make a molded fiberglass shell to seal it up without ruining everything still in there.
I have 10" L5's in my storage bins. If you choose to do this, make certain you have a tight seal. Before I went with the L5's, I had a DX Polk 10" in the right side storage bin. I recently gave away the box, seals, mounting surface, and cover....
I measured it once, and it works out to about .90 ft3. So if you take some away with an enclosure inside, it should work find. You can also increase the height a bit to compensate.
Normally, I recommend .75" MDF for an enclosure, but in this case, use .50" MDF for the insides, and .75" MDF for the top.
Line the insides with fibreglass to strenthen and seal.
I put mine in a seperate box behind the driver and it sounds great. I can still use the other compartment and didnt really lose any thing since the ABS is back there any way.
