Advice on Sub
02 C5
Alpine CDA 9831 or 9833 HU
Alpine MRV-F450 5 channel amp 50Wx4 200Wx1
Boston Acoustic SL60 6.5" component for the front
Boston Acoustic SL65 6.5" Coaxial for the rear
Sub???
I have been considering the JL stelth box or doing a custom box in the side compartment. What would you guys suggest.
Thanks in advance.
1) head unit:
2) BA makes GREAT speakers, but for a C5, you have a TON of space in that door, look at some 3 way components. You will thank me later.
3) rear fill... in a cabin as small as a Corvettes, you don't need no stinkin' rear fill. Seriously. If you invest the extra jingle in the front speakers, you won't miss the rear at all.
4) Subs... JL Stealth boxes are VERY nice, and, fill up the rear compartment nicely. I would recommend a JL 10W6. That's just me. There are other subs, too, of course, Kale has some good brands to suggest, I just don't remember them.
5) Amps... This is a very personal decision. Sounds is subjective. However, as great a head unit alpine makes, their amps are just average. There are better amps for the money... I have a JL Audio 500/5 - it's a 5 channel amp. however, it won't push a 10W6! I would look at a JL 500/1 to drive the sub and a nice 2 channel to drive the front stage. If I was going nutso on a 2 channel, check out BK Butler, www.butleraudio.com - these amps are sooooooooooo nice and smooth... drool. I had one of his older tube driver amps... I wish I had never sold it. apparently, the site is undergoing some constrution, however, it can still be navigated.
if you need any help on the install, I am here in Torrance... most shops would butcher a job like this... just a heads up. Save your money on paying a hack to install, when we can do it for free!
