need help,
I just switched the radio in my truck out,the old one,not stock ,had a spliced plug to stock.The new one I just used the same but the new one does not have a lead for dimming the lights and the old one did.If I hook the positive dimmer lead to the radio power my dash lights stay on when the radio is on ,wheather the headlights are on or not.If I leave it disconected ,no das lights .I know I can put a switch in or just let the dash light be on all the time but wondered if I am doing something wrong here.Also with the hook up now I can't dim the dash lights at all.Any advice would be appreciated,

If your new radio has no input for a dimmer you should not connect the dimmer to it at all. Just cap the lead off coming out of the radio harness.
But you say you have no lights at all with it disconnected? That is very odd. What is the make and year of your truck?
