New C5 sound system advice please
So I need details on everything needed for a new head unit and everything else needed. I am willing to spend 2000 or so. If cheaper thats good too. I looked up all the head units at Sirius and they all seem to be the same once you hit the first mp3 ones. I know they are not the same but I have no clue when it comes to radios.
Could anyone help me out?
So far, I'm interested in an Alpine CDA-9833 head unit and either Infinity or MB Quart Speakers. I know that someone on here makes a really nice head-unit kit that makes installation of a DIN-size head-unit a snap in the GM opening.
I'd like to ask the forum members recommendations on where to install a 4-channel AMP. Is there a way to install the AMP so that I can still store the hardtop in the hatch area of my coupe?
Thanks in advance!

I mounted my amp on the back wall in the hatch area. The top still fits fine.
Thing is I dont know when I will have it removed but you can have it cheap once I do. I just need to figure out all that I need so I can buy it and get started. Not getting a lot of replies so far.
MB Quarts are great speakers. I've heard several of them and loved each.
I mounted my amps on some MDF behind the seats in the actual luggage area. Is that vague enough ?
I grounded my amps between the gas tanks. EatRice has another place that he grounds things. I've seen others use the seatbelt bolts. I personally don't like the idea of using seatbelt bolts.
My friend has that Alpine deck you're speaking of and he loves it.
I don't have any experience with any of the satellite radio stuff.
VrumVrum makes the head unit mounting kit a lot of people have used. I have it and it's awesome. I think it's totally worth it.

I mounted my amp in the passenger footwell. Saved a lot of long cable runs, most notably the power cable. Cost about 3" of legroom, not a big deal for me.
The biggest surprise I had was how little depth there is for an aftermarket HU. My old Sony HU was a short 6", and it did not fit with the Sony CD cable (proprietary, no 90 degree version available). So I had to buy a mount that pushes out the front of the HU into the cockpit. Most new HU's are 7" deep, which would cause an even greater problem. Some solutions posed here include 1) use heat gun to "push back" the black plastic airbox behind the HU and 2) cut a hole in the airbox and build in a sealed depression.
