I need a small sub for a free air installation. Anything out there? 4 ohm and I would like something with good efficiency because amp power isn't going to be all that.
I think the Rockford Fosgate 6.5"s would work. But you are not going to get a lot of bass, especially sub bass, from a 6.5" driver.
You really need an 8" to get what you want.
I wish I could fit an 8 but there's no way. No room, don't want to cut the GTO any and I don't want to add any boxes into the already small trunk. I'll check out the Rockford line, thanks.
Just not willing to sacrifice anything in order for better bass. Don't want to give up my spare tire for sure. You might have never seen a GTO trunk before but they moved the fuel cell from the Monaro's location underneath the car up into the trunk leaving me very little room for storage.
Basically, I just want to swap out the stock, paper, crap OEM 6.5" low free air drivers for something with higher quality. I didn't realize how difficult that would be. I'm not looking for boom, just a little more punch and clarity over stock.
I put two 6-1/2" JL audio subwoofers in the stock locations of the rear speaker holes. They pound deciently with the targa top on, off, they get muffled.
I'm going to put in 1" tweeters to balance out the sound too, but I was suprised at how much bass the subs put out. I don't like alot of bass, where you can hear it from like a mile away, or where all you hear is a hum from like 25hz. I like bass that you can feel, but doesn't overpower the music in a sense. These do just that. They punch hard, where you can feel it in your rib cage when you turn them up, but they don't go ultra-low. It was perfect for me.
hmmmm, this is a hard one. Nice car though. Doing any engine upgrades?
Okay, taking another shot. How about these, they go all the way down to 35Hz. http://www.mbquart.com/2003/en_US/pr...&model=QSD+164
you will need a amp to get them going though.
If I was in your shoes, I would go with the JL's though, they are cheaper and have a higher sensitivity.
Check my sig below. Going to put 14" Baer brakes on this week too.
Edit, whoops. Wrong sig on this web site. Here's what I've done so far in brief minus the Baer brakes which will be my biggest mod yet minus the wheels and tires.
That Quart looks to be a mid bass drive. I like the JL 6.5" subwoofer, I had two in my Camaro, but if I use that won't it break? It's designed for an enclosure, right?
the JL sub is not for a baffle, it will want a box. But the one I originally posted would work and give some kick to the system.
Focal makes a 5" sub but it requires a ported enclosure.
Another idea would be to use bass shakers mounted under the seats. They will make the 6" "feel" like 10"s subs and no one will ever know unless you tell them. They will think those 6" subs are the best ever made because the car will still look entirely stock
