C4 Audio FAQ

The problem is that the dash face on later C4s is a little smaller... so there might be some trimming required.
Now, 1984-89 C4s will not easily accept a double din, it will take a 1.5 din, tho. I think, with some shuffling and some creativity, a DD can be made to fit, but it would not be easy. The Climate Control would have to shift down... and I think the DIC would have to shift up. I would have to measure and see where the extra space could be used.

On my 1992, I had to trim out a bunch of the facia to get this one to fit, the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX. This was due to the removable face-plate that also tilts (which is nice due to the low spot in the dash). I got this unit mainly for its Android Auto abilities.
I ran the USB through to middle to an existing gap near the console door hinge. I then added an anti-vandal type switch in the open tray (where the ride control option would go) for an antenna delete. The button is facing the front, so it it is easy to just reach down and toggle it. I originally had a silver with blue LED, but then changed it to all black chrome with an orange/amber LED. It is hooked up to the dimmer circuit, so it fades with the dash, even though you don't really see it.
Some of these panels are really quite scuffed up (due to 25 years of use). The camera really shows that off.
AVH-4200NEX head unit installed.
USB Cable pass-through.
Antenna Delete Illuminated.
Antenna Delete Non-lit.
AVH-4200NEX with custom background.
Face plate fully tilted to allow media inserts.
Face plate removed.

I just tried to put a PWE-S8 under the manual passenger seat of my 85. It will fit, if you are fine with locking your seat in one position. I don't think it would be too safe to try to raise the seat up so I am going to mount mine on the rear wall of the cargo compartment with click-bond studs. You could also mount the sub behind the passenger seat but I am not a fan of losing the few inches of seat travel and recline.

Great thread .
Can some one please post the full stereo system diagram for the 95-96 cars . I had a POS get in my car while I was gone and the unit in the PS rear glove box compartment is gone ( troubled Family member with access to my garage , Just say no to drugs ) ( it may be The reciever box ???) I am just wanting to run down the system and make sure that is all that is gone . I forget if there was something in the DS rear seat glove box . I would appreciate you very much if someone could PM me that Diagram . Unfortunately my two FSM disc set is in another location .
always appreciate you fellas , if any of you have this item after the change out I would love to pay you for one !
GOD bless ,

So this is more of an info addition to the thread as i’m midway through my audio upgrade journey.
for those that just want the knowledge the bose system in my 93 has 1ohm resistance for the the speakers.
what that means is most amps out there will not be ideal for the stock bose speakers. So the way I see it is you have 3 options if youre wanting to replace speakers or say an amp fails.
1. Replace whatever part failed you with oem ( speaker, amp)
2. Try and track down a 4/5 channel amp that is rated to handle 1ohm consistently, this is difficult because most amps on the market are rated for 2-4ohm so running an amp not suited for 1 ohm will eventually have trouble if not right from the start
3. Replace everything. This is costly but its pretty much what im going to go with seeing as oem bose amps are getting near impossible to find and will only get more difficult. But with this option you will pretty much need to replace everything and run some new power wires but in the long run i think its the best option seeing as tech for this car will be obsolete in the future
putting this out there because i always found the voltage the amps put out but no one talked about the ohms for the speakers so hopefully this will save some amps lives 😂
