1 12
has to be able to store factory top
like to keep it small as possible
amp will produce 235 watts rms x 2 at 4 ohms 350 watts rms x 2 at 2ohm stereo or 700 watts rms bridged 4 ohm mono
so my woofer will have to be a 4 ohm dvc woofer, 4ohm dvc woofer, or 4 ohm single voice coil woofer
thinking of alpine type r 12 in a dual 4 ohm voice coil
can get it brand new for 95 bucks
problem is i have no idea what it will sound like
im running cdt 3 way components in the front doors on a pioneer premier prsx720 (same kind of amp for sub)
i want sq but still want the ability to beat and get loud when i want
leaning towards alpine but would like some suggestions
I'm a big fan of Pioneer HUs but Pioneer over rates their amps. If they state that it will put out 700 watts into a single 4 ohm load, in reality, the amp will put anywhere from 175 to 350 usable watts. That amount should be great for the Alpine. I personally have never had a Alpine sub but hear they can be picky. Too much power, they blow. Too little power, the don't put out. Back in the late 80's I owned four Alpine 3-way 6X9s and they ROCKED. JL Audio make great subs. Other good ones that are posted on the Audio Forum are Image Dynamics Maxs, Infinity Perfects, and ED series that I don't remember but I'm sure someone will chime in. Best of luck
they are rated at 100x 2 or 400x 1 but the certification sheet says they produce 235 x 2 or 698 x 1 rms
I'm including a link to Pioneer amp that shows what I'm talking about.

It states 300 watts on the amp but the specs they provide show:
Four-channel at 4 ohms 35X4 equals 140 watts
Four-channel at 2 ohms 40X4 equals 160 watts (red flag)
Bridged into two channels at 4 ohm 70X2 equals 140 watts
Bridged into two channels at 2 ohm equals smoke
It doesn't say, but I bet these measurements were at 14.4 volts also so at 12 volts so the power levels will drop approx 16%. In other words their 300 watt amp is putting out about 120 watts total.
To me its false advertising. I'm not trashing you amp at all, I just know these things with 20 years in car audio and doing 5 years rebuilding electronics. Ckeck out my sig, I managed to get three 12's in my C5 and I can still fit the roof in the back.
