Default Subthump

I got my single 10" subthump box today and I must say that this is a very nice piece. And it's light weight. I have yet to decide which speaker to drop in there. I planned on putting a JL10W6, but it doesn't look as though the depth of the box will hold the woofer(7" allowable depth). I'm running an Xtant 1000watt Class D amp. Anybody have suggestions as to what woofer will provide deep crisp bass?

Here's a couple of pics of the box:

The 10w6v2 would be my choice, but don't know the mounting depth. Image Dynamics also come to mind: http://imagedynamicsusa.com/website/home.html

Great to see you got a great box from Subthump. Steve makes a good product for the price. He's a pretty nice guy too, and will work with ya if ya need something specific. I mean..its not fancy or anything, but it does the job. I looked up the JL's too, they were a bit too deep to put it box, without maybe a spacer ring for the sub. You could do it if you were really dead set on it as a driver. This is where i put my .02 cents in.

Here are my humble suggestions of what id ponder :

Digital Designs 9110

costs $609 (you can get it cheaper, Deiaggie might know of a place to buy em cheaper if your interested.) This speaker has a depth of 6.25

Digital Designs 9510

Costs $610. This is cutting it close, with a depth of 6.75

Adire Audio Brahma

Costs $360 Great speaker. Lots of rave reviews by owners and critics. Comes in with a depth of 6.85 - really pushing it.

Adire Audio Koda 10

price $229 retail. Again, you can probably find one cheaper. Its really the Brahma's little brother. Comming in at a depth of 4.75" Its the best fitting one in this list.

Alpine R series

Can be found from anywhere from $80 to $150
This sub comes in at 6" I personally own a 12" version. This little guy bangs out the notes. This picture doesnt show it, but it has a pretty meaty basket assembly. I was pleasantly surprised.

I didnt even include the Image Dynamics IDMax line, which exceedes the 7" depth. All JL high end lines are also deeper than 7". Now these are just suggestions.. By all means, dont listen to me. Especially if you are considering a downfiring sub, then it really opens up your possibilites for choices. If you downfire it, ya can fit that JLW7 in there just fine. I dont know if you are one of the people who like the geek factor of seeing the speaker motor assembly while mounted. I know if I bought a sub with a georgous motor stack, id like to show it off.

I did look up the specs on the JL 10w6 and it is really pushing depth wise. 6.95" to be exact. I have some connections at my local audio stop. I'll take the box up there and see what fits.

Snoop,
Thanks for the great ideas. I would showcase the motor, but last summer I custom made a mirror cover for the compartment and sand etched the C5 logo onto it. I've gotten high praises for it and so I'd like to keep it.. Here's the pic:

you are in luck. You have a FRC so as snoopdan recommends, you can invert a sub. With a coupe you would have a hard time because of the roof storage but with you trunk you might be able to get any sub in there. Put the sub box in and then measure from the top of the box to were the top of the trunk would be. I bet you have more than 7". You have a great amp so hook it up with a JL W7, ID Max, or MTX 9500.
They all will take that 1000 watts and give you loud quality bass. By the looks of your vette and choice of amp, you like the best

Thats a great idea to invert the sub, if you don't mind giving up the room for it in the trunk area. Besides making the sub fit, you need to make sure to optimize the sub with the enclosure, I think that subthump box is about .8 cf^3?

hrdtopv8, I'd like more info on you enclosures:
1. How much volume in those enclosures?
2. Do they go into the little side compartments?
3. What drivers are loaded into them?

Thanks-

all of those subs with the exception of the Alpine and possibly the koda will need a much bigger box to sound decent...expecially the DDs...the 9500 series DD also favors a ported box as I used to have a 9515...as for cheaper prices, i found my DDs on ebay in perfect condition, but I bought the 9515 directly from DD when they were giving 20% off everything

finding a sub that can handle 1000 watts in that small of a box and still sound decent is going to be tough...the closest would be the IDMAX 10 but that box is a little small for it but you could try it with some polyfill...the W6 *might* be able to take the power but that depends on how hard you play it...i would run less power to the sub and use either the W6 or an Image Dynamics IDQ 10 with around 300-400 watts or ditch that box and get something a little bigger or make something bigger

They are 1.2 cubic inch per box and had Eclipse 10" subs rated at 300watt RMS. Yes, the fit like a glove in the side compartment. However, I have sold them last week. I put them up for sale in this section, but I had no interest so I went outside the forum. They sounded suberb, but it was an overkill for me. I just need one sub.

I only plan to push 400watts out of the W6 and I talked to Steve at Subthump already. The W6 will work just perfectly with a spacer ring. Not looking to shake the wax out of my ears. Just good clean bass that hits when I want it too.. I've strayed away from the days of rattling my fillings out.

sorry to hijack your thread but do you think that a 12" sub would fit in a similar enclosure like the one you had in the corners?

say... this sub:
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=13768

A box like that would solve my computer case problem because i could mount the computer in the center storage compartment... hmmm

Snoop,
Yea, I'm a wuss. And the nitrous idea. Been there done that and got a hefty fine for it. It's illegal to have nitrous in your car on public streets if the line is hooked up to the motor. Damn HP's!! So, I took it out and put in a nice H/C package. While I have your attention can you show me the best way to hook up my 10W6v2 D4... Should I run it series or parallel for best sound starting from the amp to the sub? Running it off the Xtant Amp.. Thanks..

Scott, yes you should be able to fit 12" subs, but if you're watching your weight then this will come as a disadvantage.

Well I checked out Xtant's site, and hope you have the X1001, It looks like its Xtant's current 1000 watt class D amplifier available. Its pretty spiffy lookiing It looks that it is only 500x1 output into a 4 ohm load, and 1000x1 into a 2 ohm. Does it look like this amp:

If so, I'd connect the JL in parallel creating a 2 ohm load. The JL should handle that no sweat. Ive been meaning to go and check out Xtants website for a while now, so thanks for giving me a reason to. Xtant products have their own look, thats for sure. Ive always wanted to get one of those hexagonal speakers to play with, but id imagine that it would be a pain in the *** to make a hole for it in a sub box. I already bitch about the Kicker L7 square speaker models, and their bastard size. Hope that amp works out for you. Looks really nifty.

hope ive helped.

cool...

Not really watching my weight... I just got a h/c, l/w flywheel, headers, high flow cats and machined block to overcome the added weight (plus i don't race) :-D

Yes, it's the 1001 Class D amp. It's a bad *** amp!! The looks and sound it produces is high class. I've always like xtant products. I just wish they would have stuck with the same look for the lower sized amps. Right now, I have the JL 300/2 pushing Focal Utopias up front. I just had this amp chromed to match the Xtant. You've helped tremendously.. Can't thank you enough..

Scott,
I pretty much have the same mods you do.. I curious as to how the car is going to feel after I reduced some weight. I don't race either, but there never seems to be enough power..
