I'm installing a Alpine CDA 9830 head unit and want to change out the front speakers with as large as possible speaker. Would you go with a 2 way speaker or a component speaker. Is there anyone that makes a conversion bracket?

I installed Alpine 3 and 1/2 inch full range speakers and 8inch Rockford Fosgate Stage 1 subs in my doors. Built a custom enclosure out of fibreglass - all hidden by the stock Bose covers.
Don't know if anyone makes a conversion kit - other members can pipe in or try Audio and Electronics.
There is a forum member that makes a really nice set of adaptor plates for fitting generic speakers to the C5 doors. You should post in the audio section.

The front is completed but I'm still working on the amps, cap, crossovers and sub. I'm not happy with the sound of the RF Stage 2 12inch in the ProBox - so my car is still a work in progress.
As soon as I'm done I'll post pix. It looks a mess now (except for the front enclosures)
Here are some pictures of my installation. Not as elaborate as others, but got the job done. I made my mounts out of MDF as well - took out the original speaker units and traced them, then cut with a jigsaw.
There's plenty of room in there - all kinds of depth. Also, it is easy to run new speaker wire through the plastic "snorkle" that runs from the door to under the dash.
===Door removed, original Bose system still in place.===
===Bose unit removed, revealing speaker opening===
===MDF speaker mount (only need to do one tracing - they are mirror image right to left)===
===New mounts installed, with MB Quart 2-way speakers===
Vate, that instal is not complicated at all. I like the simplicity of it. Tis the way it should be done. I wish my 86's door panels were as easy as that .. Looks good tho. You could loose a small family down that door well.
Thanks to you all for your suggestions. I think with your help and the wonderful pictures, I can now make the adapters and do the install with little trouble. I have decided to go with Component speakers (Infinity Reference 6000cs). and now that I have seen the brackets I can make them. Thanks again
Be careful. As careful as I was, I still broke a couple of the plastic pins, and a couple of the grommets. Grommets glue back in, but I had to buy the replacement pins at the Chevy dealership.
For $5, I would highly suggest buying a set of specialized removal tools:
