Hey, just read the large thread form Bogus about stereo modifications, installation, etc. Very informative, but I don't think it answered my question, or if it did I missed it, so here goes:
I have a completely aftermarket stereo system in my 91 Coupe. I also have a 99 GMC Sonoma that has the stock Delco AM/FM CD Player. I would prefer a stock look in the Corvette and like the look of the factory full sized Delco units. I know I can pull the Pioneer deck out of the vette and put it in the truck no problem, but will the Delco unit work in the vette? All the Bose components have been removed, so I'm assuming it should be a simple swap, but wanted to make sure before I go the time and trouble of swapping them.
I'm gonna go with a probably not, but I guess anything's possible...your best bet would be to buy a bose system (hu and speakers) from someone with a c4 that is in the process of replacing theirs with aftermarket components. 1996man seems to be in the process of replacing his bose stuff, might shoot him a PM...
You're asking for a large headache but it could be done. I guess you'd have to weigh how much effort you want to put into a stock look over the PITA of making it so. In my humble somewhat half azz knowledgeable opinion, Bose is crap. It looks like crap. Its functions like crap. A nice clean simple DEH series Pioneer or a comperable Alpine head unit usually looks well in a C4. My Pioneer looks stockish due to the grey/black color scheme in my ride. But by all means, do what you feel is better. I have a pic attached below of what my DEH45 looks like, just for kicks.
thnaks snoopdan. if it's going to be a PITA I think I'll just leave things the way they are. It all works, so why mess witha good thing.
I totally understand. It would suck about half way ripping your dash apart to realize "man , this sucks. ... I probably shouldnt of done this". ... I know that feeling all too well
Ive pulled out a dash or two in my time, halfway thru and said "ok, now why was I doing this again? " hehe
this may be no help but the eclipse line of h/u dont' have a lot of glitz and glam, just a straight up (plain looking) h/u. that may be a good alternative for trying to achieve an oem look
