Default CMP question

Looking at the NASA SE website, it says "new course" for the winter meltdown event...I have not been to CMP since last May...can someone shed some light on this "new course" at CMP???

I was wondering the same thing. I ran there in March this year and it was the same old course.

They began the change the first part of December.

From what I've heard they will be making turn 12 into more of a sweeper into turn 13. They will also be increasing the radius in turn 14, allowing more exit speed. Estimates from what I've heard can be as much as 10 -20 mph more at turn 1.

After talking with one of the owners a couple of months ago, I thought that the changes started at turn 11. In any case the changes are supposed to make the slow end of the track flow better.
He said "we are removing 1 braking zone & 1 opportunity to pass"

Future track changes are planned on the property beyond turn 8 but that is a few years out.

As long as they don't remove the 2 block dots of tar that Falcon uses for his marks going into the kink all will be right with the world. If they do....look out!

I wonder if they might do something with those bone jarring, filling rattling, parts breaking gators coming out of 14. Those things are like running thru a series of tank ditches.

Here is the map from their website. It looks like they haven't changed it much. I am planning on being there in March with the SVT club. It will be interesting to see the changes first hand. I would love to see a change in turn 14. The gators on the outside are pretty nasty. If you are off line and end up on the outside to soon its a rough ride.

That appears to be the old layout.

We'll be there on Feb 8, 9 & 10th running with NASA and it's supposed to be finished for that event.

You're right Bob, if they ever repave and cover the various marks we use, a bunch of us will be screwed.

Funny how we all find little things for our visual cues. What surprises me is that once we pick out a couple distinct rubber marks, they seem to be there for a long, long time. I've used the same 2 small rubber marks on turn 5 at Putnam Park for about 3 or 4 years now. Must be some kind of special rubber to last that long.

Works great till a repave...

The CMP thing is the old layout, there is actually going to be a bit of changes.. I will see what I can come up with here in a few..

Ok.. what I have heard from Brian at CMP.

1) Softening of turn 14, no alternate route
2) Turn 12 will be softened, but the "old" layout will remain.
3) There will be another section off of turn 14.
4) centers of each corner repaved

What I remember from seeing a drawing held up:

Also for next year: A skid pad.. some of the One Lap guys are already planning on renting it

Future:

Kart track - Brian *hopes* to have it later this year, but it's in the 3-year plan.

Extra section off of turn 8.. think the "boot" at the Glen.
Brians words were "We (the track managers) are racers and drivers, we want a fun place to drive it will be twisty with elevation changes, not much passing but fun to drive."

I think I also heard something about a softening of some curbing, but cant remember.

CMP seems to have alot of land...honestly, i have not liked this track and hope they keep renovating into something better. The current config always seems to beat the pi$$ out of my car too.

Oops, I'm not liking that new T. 14 at all. It looks like an appendage just stuck on the end of a stick.

That's just an option and I am not 100% sure that's exactly how it will be. You can run a new "softened" 14 also, which is the inner black line on my drawing.

Interestingly enough, the first design for the track had a section like that outside of 14.

Oh, Okay, I just noticed that inside black line. That's not bad, it's what I heard they were doing.

Maybe open up the outside black line when there's an autocross or something.

New information...

Seems I forgot that the new turn 12 goes outside of the old turn 12, not inside.

New revised guess at what it will look like:

And to back it up.. some pictures: (not mine, I would have taken way more than three)

The new turn 12, old turn 12 can be seen off to the right.

New Turn 13.. crosses over the track just before old turn 13.

New, wider turn 14.

Hmm...might have to reconsider my choice not to run there. 14 was always my bad point and could never really get the hang of 11. Looks like they might have actually made it a bit more flowing rather than 2 AutoX tracks joined by a straightaway. I do love the Kink though.

It's going to be interesting, I hope to run it in about a month and see.

My thing is, I didn't mind the other course at all, I liked the discipline it took to not overdrive the "autocross" section.

It's going to make the highway straight quite fast though.. I am guessing low 120s in a C5, maybe faster.. so though 14 got wider, but you're still going to be using the brakes pretty hard.
