Racing Ball Joints for GM Control Arms
Let's talk Ball Joints.
Do you have a stack of lower control arms taking up space in your garage because they all have bad ball joints?
Pfadt Racing is introducing a new line of racing suspension ball joints. Made in the USA of steel construction, our ball joints offer one less thing you need to worry about on your race car.
The stud features a cotter pin for positive retention of the nut which is a huge improvement over messing around with an allen wrench and an oversized crush nut.
Each unit comes with a dust shield (not shown). The lowers (front and rear) are available now and retail at $125/each. The uppers are due in January.
Unlike the factory units, ours aren't ruined by the heat from your brakes, you won't have to wrap them in heat tape, and they're lash-adjustable so if you get any play you can adjust them.

awesome, i've been waiting for something like this. How hard is it to remove the existing balljoints?
and is that price per joint or per axle?

seriously guys, wtf!? Did you wait for me to be broke to release all of this stuff?
I've heard these are a huge problem on race cars, I'll be sure to check mine over the winter and i might just have to save up for a set

My experience with press in ball joints was to replace the entire control arm because there is a certain amount of crush required for the ball joint. In addition, especially on aluminum, its very difficult not to damage the cup when r&r. Any specific instruction so that these are done safely?

The factory joints press out without any drama and there is no reason to be concerned about the strength of the control arm with the new ball. The press surface on these new parts has a nice lead in taper so there is no risk of galling the aluminum or cocking during installation.
We might put together a set of dies to help simplify the press process. That is still TBD. We have been able to accomplish pressing these in and out with a press and basic shop tools.

The new ones go in easily as well.
The joints are $125 each, so it would be $250 to do your front end.

If I could ever get my bro and his car situation sorted out, I could get back to my project.
Tim just picked up a 2001 Z06 and is headed off to the track this spring. The car needs a little TLC first.
Hopefully in the March 2009 time frame, I'll get back to my project again.
BTW, keep up the good work. You got a lot of great products, wish they were available sooner.
