But, and this is big, this is racing, not qualifying. I am a terrible qualifier, so all I want is to be close at the drop of the green flag.

Later, DMP.

Question, do you guys run new tires for practice also or do you guy do what I do run the oldest tires I can find until it counts?

I would image that some guys are on new/newer tires and some are on tires that are showing cords (like I would be). So really you can throw out practice times, not everyone brings there A game until it counts.

Lay it down Dave

BTW maybe you should do some NASA TT, great qualifying practice

These times seem more in line with what I was told yesterday about the track being slow. It appears they have found those 3-4 evaded seconds.

Is Lance running a C5 or C6?

Is Finlayson running his Orange Monster?

It's late, I'm beat and we have one more qual in the AM, so this will be short.

This track is testing me. Can't seem to put together a good lap. I'm having fun but am not used to being this far off pace, hopefully I can find a little more tomorrow. It'll be a long race though and I plan on being there at the end, from what I have heard and can tell by running 30 minutes in a test session it will be a race that tests your ability to save the car for the last few laps. I have encountered some issues that I had to work through, I think the issues cropped up because in 3 years of racing I don't think I have ever worked the drivetrain so hard. RA is tough on everything, not just brakes.

At any rate, it's me, not the car, I think my car has 3 more seconds in it. Just have to find the guts in some of the gutsy places. I won't let myself be one of those that blames the car. After what happened to Tom Thrash today it's tough trying to be a hero at a new track for a trophy. I wish his family the best and say a prayer for a fellow racer. I fully intend on loading the car into the trailer, even if it means finishing off the pace.

Tough day for Dave Pintaric. He lost a motor in the Viper. Hate to see that happen to a friend who was doing so well. I have no doubt it will be back soon and he should be proud of the times he ran.

Qual in the morning, race in the afternoon. I'll give it an honest run and see if I can best Jason B. for top honors in a C5, we've been ribbing each other all week! I think it's pretty obvious the car is dead at this track against all the other cars, even with the fastest driver in the field I doubt a C5 would even go close to a 2:23 to low 2:24 in the conditions the C6 and vipers did. So much for that wieght drop that none of us can make. Oh well, bedtime now!

Joe

Well, yes indeed I did break a motor. We think it is a dropped valve, but won't know until later in the week.

I drove the 10 hour home yesterday, man that is one lonely drive after what happened. But hearing about what happened to Tom Thrash really puts things in perspective. I don't know much of what happened, but can tell you the stories are flying and what you read on the Internet isn't what is being said at the track.

My data suggests that my first (and only) lap was projected to be a 2:25.5. Whether it would have been is anyone's guess, but since there were only two laps of data (an "out" lap, then that one lap) and the missing sector is the front straight where even I can't mess up, I feel that is a likely result.

Some intersting data points:

The front straight, back straight (going into Turn 5) and entering Canada Corner were all down on MPH compared to Friday's test session; so I was going faster in the corners but much slower in the straights. The difference between the two sessions got greater in each succeeding straight (2 MPH on the front, 3 going into T5, almost 4 into Canada Corner), so the motor was starting to go south on me before I made that last turn up the hill.

I really think a 2:24.XXX was in the works, especially because I was not really being aggressive in the first qualifying lap.

This motor served me well. It was installed in Sept 2007 for those Run Offs and has put up with my abuse ever since. This is my first ever road race motor that I have lost, so I guess my time was up.

Now I am working at the tast of acquiring a suitable replacement. This will take time because T1 Viper motors aren't something you can pick up at the local Advanced Auto Parts.

Another reason for you to get back into a Corvette , Dave................You could have an LS6,2,3 tomorrow or the next day...

Sorry that you big weekend was ruined though, looks like you were doing quite well.

Danny, that was a topic of discussion on the long drive back. Unfortunately, it takes just as long to replace a Corvette motor as it does a Viper, maybe longer?

I do have a spare motor...at the shop...in Ohio...10 hours away...

Buttermore out after 4 laps? Looks like Lance, M.P. Tracy & Miller in a shoot out.

If I'm looking at the live scoring it looks like a full course Yellow
