Default Two coolest things at PRI

the New Goodyear RS DOT Sports Radial, developed and tested on a Corvette, I was really pushing them to set up a contingency program otherwise there isn't a chance anyone will run them over Hoosier. Story is they have a tire to compete with a Hoosier R but not the A (they are working on it and should know shortly). It took talking to a few Goodyear guys before getting anyone that would give me honest answers.

Hawk Carbon Fiber backed race pads, 8 lbs lighter

Looks like the A7/R7 won't be out till 2011 at best.

These bad boys? http://www.racegoodyear.com/tires/sports.html

I saw them the other day when I was surfing for potential tires for my other car...

Yeah he said 2.5X, I replied over a grand for pads he's like no 5-6 hundred. maybe his price. I'm pretty sure DTC70s for a C5 Z is almost $500 a set (Retail)

These are probably the same Goodyear DOT race tires that debuted at PRI when PRI was still in Indy.....Just how many years ago was that ????....I think Freddy Baker ran those on his Porsche in T1 the next year with no real success....

It'll be interesting to see another new tire out...Not sure if Hoosier's contingency will be quite as lucrative next year as it was in '09......

You must have some Hawk cashed saved up over the past couple years. I think the 7793 would bankrupt a guy

Not in it's current form.

I used to work for Goodyear and I called a couple of pretty high ups about the R7 when I heard about it, but no one knew what I was talking about.

8lbs lighter, that's pretty impressive

in a stock class, that would make an impact.

I had a set in one hand and a CF set in the other and couldn't believe the difference. Of course I won't spend the $$$ but they are cool

Last I heard the show tire was going on four years old.

But I have mounted a set of preproduction 315s that were used for testing on vette, so I know they are working on them.

How many weekends could you expect a set of pads like that to last?

It's the same pad just the back is CF instead of steel, supposedly there are other benefits besides the weight.

I can think of thermally isolating the pads from the brake calipers.

I don't know much about corvette brakes, so I don't really know how long the other ones last. I have been told by GT1 guys that they go through $1k worth of brakes in a national weekend. I have heard the corvette guys complain about brake fade through a national length race, which I have assumed is due to overheating.

My pads on the race car lasted a whole season, 14 races and 7 TT events + 2 HPDE days. Hawk DTC 70s

The GT1 car actually used a Carbon brake (not to be confused with the Carbon-Ceramic ZR1) pad and rotor. Not sure of the backing plate material for them however.

One good thing about carbon is that it is very stiff, not sure about compressibility which is going to matter on how it is made. If it compresses then your going to have a funny feel to the pedal. If they can keep it as stiff if not more so than the steel then I would expect to see better pad life as well as some thermal protection to the caliper as well.

The GT2 car has to use iron rotors, and yes we would go through well over $1,000 in pads over a ALMS weekend, not to mention rotor wear which isn't to bad with these cars.

Dunno....ran those Goodyears on my car for 2/3rd's of this season. In tire testing with Goodyear they were at least one second a lap faster than Hoosier R6's...

AFAIK, they are a completely new compound.
