Default Need Shocks wHat to buy?

Looking for some experience and opinion.

I am about to fork up the dough for shocks and have been advised to get them valved for the application?

Where to do this? Who is a Forum friend I can give my money too?

I am inclined toward the Bilstein, but they are a little "proud" of that service.

i am a Koni FSD addict I am one of those folks that think the shocks should dampen not support the vehicle. the springs do that!

may be in the market for some shocks myself.

I am currently using 04 oem shocks right now, but i can feel they are losing their damping ability. Primarily for HPDE and some autocross.
considering LG aluminum custom bilstein, pfadt's, or Koni's as well.

I just noticed that Tire Rack has a sale on Koni's.

for a 03 z06 i found FSD's for $600(normally $800).- whole set.

koni sports for $263 each(normally $350)

Call Randy@DRM for Bilsteins; they have lots of different valvings based on what car and modifications you've made. I had KONI 3013Sports on for a while and didn't really care for them myself.

If somebody is suggest valving for application that usually means you've got other modifications -- typically springs...

This is a track only car. '84 base car with '90 front suspension & a ZO7 from a '94.

Rear is a '94 Dana 44 w/a Z51 spring.

DRM is my first choice. They wrote the chapters in this book?

But I have been trying to do just that, since before Christmas.

Heck I got the invite on the forum when I was cruising for brakes!!!

Can't get a price quote?? It's not like I can "click on" the parts and order them like Summit or other " Big Boxes "....?

There may be a problem? I need 1984 shocks? Could be they just don't do 1984? Sure would be good to know?

I was going to buy the brakes there, but had to move on, so I got Hawk.

Now I'm down to the shocks, need them on intwo weeks, so..........?

Perplexing ? Just need someone to take the money?

!!!!!!!!!!!! Yikes! Well I will go look, anyway... I asked after all.

I hope they have an antique section for my '84.

I am beginning to think I am in for some cutting and welding here........

PM Randy@DRM or grab the number off http://www.dougrippie.com/ -- I've never had trouble getting a quote, or ordering parts from Randy...

http://www.dougrippie.com/drm/suspension_components.htm

Lists an '84 application. $90ea. Line item for custom valving.

Definitely worth picking up the phone...

I put on a fresh set of HD Bilstein's and now I wish I'd have went with the Z51 valving. The car turned into more of a track only car pretty quickly. Last I checked you could send them into to Bilstein and they would re-valve them but because they want to replace the rod every time the cost of this is almost what it costs to buy a new set. When I got mine they were $280 for four. Re-valve was something like $250 but they don't repaint them or anything cosmetic. It's on my list to get something adjustable.

Randy just emailed... they need a couple weeks to do it. Oh!!! and $720.00 !!!! New custom Shocks for a 1984 car? I guess that's not outrageous.

I have a set of '94 style just sitting there. They don't fit the '84.

Oh well the car was cheap.... ?

I am going to pick up the phone and call tomorrow and make sure this hodge-podge of parts I have will accommodate these shocks and vice versa.

I'm not sure what year differences there all are. My '88 has some odd ball rear mounting.

I've been running custom Bilsteins for a long time now. i just had a set done a few months ago. They charge $65.00 per shock. You might need additional things so that's not a firm price.

88 and up rear shocks, [ well , 89 and up for sure] mount into the frame.

The older one has a brackets on the frame and a through bolt attaching the shock. So basically the top and bottoms both have bushed female mounts [ Gad!!!! that sounded rude?].

The old style should work with the newer read end [and the '84 frame] , but I am just getting all **** about the whole freaking thing.

Randy is getting Bilstien to share their opinion.

Waiting for the BILSTEIN answer.

DRM will sell me a set if they fit. I will hold of re-valving until we need too, I mean three Drag racers here?

I don't think lap times will be the issues for a while!!!

I wonder if I could convert those, they are a pain going into the frame like that.
