Rookie question - helmets?
So, looking to pick up a helmet for some track days but the registration/rules I just looked at specified NO motorcycle helmets!
Why is this?
They noted SA2000 and newer helmets only.
Can anyone in Atlanta recommend a good place to try out so helmets for size and comfort? Would like to pick one up within the next few weeks.
Thanks.

Can't help with places in ATL. But, the SA rating for the helmets have different requirements than motorcycles. Specifically, multiple hits and fire. Motorcycles don't have these requirements.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I'll make the trip down to fayetteville when time allows. If anyone knows a place on the northside of Atlanta let me know.

Its a little drive from where I live, but he has collected lots of my safety $$$
Thats what I get for not reading it all. OBTW - if you are going to a NASA-SE event he usually has a good stock of helmets on the trailer. My wife bought my new one at CMP last November.

In the alpharetta area... deals mostly with BMW's.. but sells lots of helmets, seats, safety gear. I called the day before to ensure he had 2 sizes for me to try on.. He did not... But, he went and got the smaller size. Good deal on the G-force SA2005 helmet
My 2 cents

In my recent quest for a helmet I went to several motorcycle shops and tried on different manufactures helmets. I then took the brand that I thought fit best and shopped here.
I bought an HJC helmet from Finspeed, a forum vendor. Daniel asked a few questions and sent a helmet with extra pads of different size for fitting. After trying the different pads I kept those that fit best and returned the others.
All in all a great deal and a helmet that fits almost custom. Cost and service were excellent.
Hope this helps.

Fantastic post Super! This clearly tells me why Moto helmets are no good in a car. Now I feel educated.
This should almost be made a sticky in this section I think. I've asked many folks recently why no moto helmet and nobody could tell me. The response was always if its good enough for a moto rider its gotta be good enough in 3000lb car.
Thanks again for sharing.

If the local shops don't work I suspect there will be a few dealers at Road Atlanta for the Mitty HSR event in about 10 days. It's a great excuse to go to the races! Also,,, aren't SA2000 now out of date as they are 10 years old? I'm thinking you want a SA2005.

Good luck!

SA2000 won't expire until the SA2010s come out in October.

Another "stupid" question. Will an SA2005 rated helmet be accepted for drag racing? I purchased an M2010 helmet last month at the strip, not realizing it wouldn't be accepted for RR. I don't plan on doing a lot of either type of racing so I'd like one multi-purpose helmet. So if an SA2005 rated helmet will be good for both, I can buy one and sell my M rated helmet.
