Default C5 Z06 Weight...

My C5Z is at the fab shop getting a cage, fire suppression, etc and the builder threw it on his scales. It weighed in at:

Left Front: 842 Right Front: 764

Left Rear: 695 Right Rear: 773

Total: 3074
Rear: 1468 - 47.7%
Front: 1606 - 52.3%

This was with half a tank of fuel. I have coil-overs waiting for the car, but this was on the stock springs. It will be getting corner-weighted once the c/o's go on so hopefully we can even out the weights some.

In terms of weight reduction the car has:
  • No AC
  • No Carpet
  • Kirkey Seats
  • Headers & no cats
  • light weight battery
  • No airbags/Momo steering wheel

Additional weight in the car:
  • [*]
  • [*]
  • [*]
  • [*]
  • [*]

I'm probably forgetting some minor stuff on both the weight reduction and additions, but that pretty much covers it.

Any thoughts on low-hanging fruit to get a bit more weight out of the car? I'd like to get it to 3000lbs if I can, but I'm not ready to remove the side-glass or go to lexan front/rear yet.

As mentioned the Dynamat will be coming out, but I would be surprised if there's more that 5-10lbs there. I think we're going to take out the heater-core too and just run a small blower for defrost.

Dont forget to site in the drivers seat when corner weighting

Or at least weight yourself with your driving cloths and helmet, then put that amount of wt in the drivers set.

I use old brake rotors

Yup, we were just weighing to see where we're at overall on the car. Good point though.

driver
the stock clutch is a boat anchor
headlights are a couple lbs
e-brake is a good amount of unsprung weight
what wheels are you using?

there isn't a 50lb block you can pull out, just lots of little things. you've already got the easy stuff

I've been working on the driver weight reduction recently, and have lost over 40lbs since Feb. I'm down to 198ish from 240ish. I'm 6', and I'm lifting a lot (and doing tons and tons of cardio) so I think 185-190 is a reasonable goal for me.

I'm going to leave the headlights for now, and I hate the way the non-flip-ups look so I guess I'm stuck there. E-brake is a possibility though. I'm running factory C5Z wheels currently.

I guess it's time to start finding those grams too!

The dash pad is worth about 25lbs
headlights, motors and mounts are about 9lbs each
replace the GM fans and shroud with a SPAL fan and that will save about 12lbs in front of the axle
complete e-brake system interior handle all cables and parts in the wheels is worth about 11 lbs
Gas door release and cable 2 lbs
hood release, latches under hood and cables 3.5 lbs
I pulled about 30 lbs of un-needed wire, nuts, bolts, other assorted fastners, fuses, relays and switches out.

I would have to go look at the pile of parts still sitting on my shop floor to remind me of what else came out but I'm in Singapore right now so it's kind of difficult.

Two quickies that come to mind are a racing alternator and to drain the washer fluid out of the system.

I tipped the scales at nationals a few years ago at 3002lbs...stock. FWIW.

light clutch (with my 5.5 QM it's 38 lbs lighter than stock)
race battery (you already got) - 20+ lbs
2 pc rear rotors and e-brake delete - 8.5 lbs per hub
headlight delete - 20 lbs
headers/xpipe is gonna be 20-25 lbs tham OEM depending on system.

that's ~110 lb right there. 1.5 sec a lap

Thanks for the great info!

3002 stock!?! That seems very low for a stock C5Z. How much fuel? Had the scales been calibrated previous to weighing your car?

Great info also! I have a relatively light twin-disc clutch. I still street drive the car a bit, so I don't want to go to a QM currently.

Lightest I've ever seen too.

Weighed after competition so the fuel was on reserve. Carbon fiber hood (Z16) and turndowns with a muffler delete. Wheels with A6s are pretty light too (titanium hardware).

Last I checked (on the non-pilot scales), my FRC weighs in at 2993 fully stripped with cage, T1 bars, EOC, 275's and headers.

When you say full stripped, do you mean the entire dash too? Is your heater out? My car is sitting at 81lbs heavier than yours. The trans/diff coolers probably account for a good chunk of that (the pumps are pretty heavy, plus the heat exchangers and extra fluid). The Dynamat in my car (which is coming out) is probably a few lbs too. The dry-sump adds another few quarts of oil (overall my system ends up taking about 15qts I think). There's not too much else in my car that should make it heavier than yours. It's on stock wheels w/ 275/305 f/r RA-1s at the moment.

Dash is removed along with everything in it other than the guage cluster. All that A/C stuff adds up although it'd be nice to have air on grid and a defrost.

We're going to take out the whole heater box and most of the ducting, but keep the defrost duct and put a small blower on a single switch. I think it's important to keep some form of blower for the windshield for safety.

I'm optimistic we can find our way down to 3k lbs w/ the dash still in the car and side glass still in the car (open trailer)... but it will be close.

I removed the HVAC unit and took the heater core and evap unit out and put it back in. I then modified the dash vents to retain the center vent and defrost only. It will use the factory control. IMO this is easier than fabing up a new fan and switch.

Dash back in
