One more example of why safety mods should be done before performance mods.

That race track looks killer....those strait aways are longer than my local highway!!! Glad to see the guy walk away, amazing how far safety has come. If that were 1965, he be dead.

Yep, when I was in Australia and got to hang out with the V8 Supercar drivers they all said that Bathurst was their favorite and fastest track.
I told them about the climbing esses at VIR and they said that Bathurst has a section of descending esses. I can only imagine how much fun that track would be.

I'd just point out that the accident here LOOKED bad but wasn't all that bad. He didn't hit something and stop. He went over, but he was shedding energy gradually as he did. There was no 40+ G impact.

True. I would venture to say that his containment system (seat, restraints, nets, etc) helped him the most in this series of rolls. But for wheel to wheel racing you definitely want a good cage too.

Shoot, if it was 1973 he would be dead too! The SCCA didn't require roll cages in B Production Corvettes until 1974 as I remember. Many a Vette raced prior to that with only roll bar protection.
Racing safety has taken a quantum leap in last couple of years. I think that a HANS device should be your first purchase after your helmet selection.
