How Do You Ship Tires Cheaply?
What are the options out there? Have I missed something?
I checked with various carriers for 8 tires between Missouri and California
FEDEX Ground $280
Greyhound Freight $200(must drop off and pick up)
Highway Freight $195 (pallet, pick up and delivery commercial)
UPS $560(unbelievably stupid girl on the phone, had trouble understanding a tire was round not square!)

pallet is prolly gonna be the cheapest for z06 sizes especially with 8 of them, unfortunately with the size of the big front and rears there is no real cheap way to ship them. cost of racing i guess.
taping/banding 2 of them together might save but would probably still be about $50 per pair.

You used to be able to just stick a label and UPS a tire for around $20.....now they charge an additional $10 EACH if you don't put it in a box. Total ripoff, but they claim a human has to carry it around instead of using their automatic conveyor system.
I've gotten a few pallets of tires from Bob Chick delivered via R&L Carriers. We shipped 20 tires from Charleston to Concord NC for $145. I picked them up at the terminal since I don't have a business address

I think you got some bad information. Go to ups & talk to a supervisor, not some cluck on the phone.
If you buy new & they get shipped from a closer distribution center it's about 8-10 bucks each.
I thinks that's as good as it gets.

Fedex told me $18 just sticking tag on tire and taping around it which seemed like a good deal. What they didn't mention was the $7 extra handling charge.

One front tire strapped to one rear tire. label stuck on to the tire. No box no rims.
Two packages of two tires each
FedEx Ground $36 Texas to Raleigh for both.
Shipping tires NOW will be expensive do to the holidays. If you can wait until after Jan 5th do it.

Forget Fed-ex and UPS, use the US Post Office. They are almost 1/2 the price. I have been walking into my local post office with tires for the past 5+ years without any problems.

US Post office via Parcel Post, $26 per tire, he didn't even have to box it, just taped a to/from label on it.

I wonder if the rates these large distributors get is at a large discount compared to what they quote a retail customer, that is really a bargain.

Yes on your question above. Finspeed is a Michelin slicks dealer and shipping to anywhere in the lower 48 is $10 per tire (UPS).

Go to Forward Air www.forwardair.com their terminal to terminal shipping is by far the cheapest however your shipper must be willing to drop off.
Haven't checked FedEx or UPS lately, but when I shipped, I just walked into a hub office, slapped a sticker on the tire and wrapped around it with packing tape and shipped them. UPS ran about $25 a tire, but that was several years ago now.
