Default Cold Air Intake for C5Z?

Do CAIs make any difference in track use? I know they seem to work for drag strips but the requirements may be different for track use.

Has anyone seen an improvement in lap times with a CAI? If so, how much and which one? I seem to need all the help I can get.

This pertains to C5 Z06s

When I put the Vararam on mine, it showed zero difference on the dyno. But on the backstretch at VIR, I could never break 146. After the VR, 151. Same tires etc. So for me, I think it does help.

When I bought my car it had a tune and was stock. I added a Vararam and an intake and it seems to pull harder than before. How much so is probably very little but it seems to pull harder.

Are there any serious installation issues? I also hear about water getting into the intake. Is this just from rain or do you need to be flying through puddles for this to happen?

Anytime you can add HP, if your driving abilities are up to the task, your times will drop. Remember on a road course there are "several" strait line runs like the 1/4 mile.

put duct tape over the z06 screens and there is better aerodynamics. That would eliminate the standard V-ram CAI option.

so Really any good CAI is just fine.

Honker, Calloway, Vortex.

I have wondered about the C6 Vram. a single opening, that would stretch under the front of the C5, so the screens could still be duct tape shut for better aerodynamics.

My screens are ducted taped too, this is exactly what I was thinking because I thought it would work with the front end I made.

Does the Vararam intake cut into the brake cooling ducts on a C5Z ?

I know the stock cooling ducts are a waste of time but when connected up to tubing that runs to the hub directly, they work. I am certainly happy to make alternative brake cooling arrangements but if I don't have to .......

I was thinking of running some flex tubing from the front air dam. Should be able to run it in such a way as to not get squished by 315s up front.

If I'm not mistaken... the brake ducts hook up to the smaller openings lower on the front bumper. So you can run a Vararam, and still hook your brake ducting up.

Interrsting. Where does this info come from? I see a lot of guys running the Vararam on track. Ive seen a lot of threads too saying it makes the mostpeople power at speed.

Some personal tunnel tests.

We have also take quite a few V-rams off and put a honker / vortex and retuned for more hp too. Possible less air turbulence in the intake inself.

so what every works for you.

Interesting. Makes me wonder why GM put the screens there in the first place.
