Is there any market for expired harness belts?
I have a pair of Schroth harnesses with the camlocks in new looking condition, but unfortunately they expired in 2008. Because they expired I haven't bothered to try and sell them. Do you think that they might be worth something to someone that autox's or does DE's?

Most belt manufacturers will reweb for a small fee
For example, Crow does it for $50 plus shipping using all your hardware

G-Force is $110 to re-webb and new is $150 for cam-lock. For hpde, I don't think I have ever seen any tech person check date, but for safety, I will replace mine after this year as they are 2007 and I think I read somewhere that 5 years is the max. Hard to throw away 2 sets of new looking harnesses, but best to be safe.

A number of years ago I saw a safety presentation by Joe Marko of HMS Motorsports. Nylon belts lose about 60% of their strength over a 30 month time period thus the SFI two year rule. Polyester belts do much better and that is why they are the ones that can meet the FIA 5 year rule.
The belts lose their strength due to Sun Exposure. What a lot of people don't know is belts lose strength in the way they are used. If you have a 3 inch belt that is folded over due to going around a seat edge or some other obstruction the belt strength is no more than the narrowest section so make sure your belts are not folded. What this means is a 3 inch lap belt that has a fold where it enters the seat pass through will only have 1/3 of its rated strength if the smallest part of the fold is 1 inch.

They'd also be great for the autocross folks. No autocross group will ever check dates since harnesses aren't even required. They give you a much better "seat of the pants" feel for your car.

I have sold a bunch of out dated belts on flebay for $50, it's a shame though and I do not agree with the two year rule. (someone is in bed with someone there..)

In SCCA:
The SFI 2 year rule only applies to Club & Pro Racing.
For Time Trials and Club Trials, SFI belts can be 5 years old.
FIA belts, as always have the expiration date on the label.
The time requirement for belts is waived for PDX (HPDE).

BTW, I don't agree with the 2 year thing but I go by the rules as written.

I have straps in my trailer that are 20 years old, been used in open and closed trailers. I've never lost a car yet! NASA DE and TT allow expired harnesses, as long as they are in "very good condition"
11.4.8 Seatbelts and Harnesses
The seatbelts should be in good condition. No damage may be present on the seatbelts
and they must be the factory configuration. Any harness or any restraint system, other
than factory stock, shall conform to CCR section #15.5, in all respects except for the
expiration regulations. Harnesses that are expired for racing may be used providing that
they are in at least very good condition. The use of a lap belt without any shoulder
restraint is not permitted. Passenger seatbelts must meet the same minimum
requirements per the CCR as the driver seatbelts if being used by a passenger. Notepassenger equipment need not match the installed equipment on the driver’s side. See
Section 11.3 for more about four point harnesses.

Good to know. Mine look brand new, just didn't make sense having to trash them. I think I will keep them for awhile. Seems like I have plenty of other places to put $300 ($740 for 2 skf hubs)
