Default C5 Front Breather Radiator Opening Size

I'm adding a splitter and wondering how big the radiator opening should be. Can someone with a proven setup share with me the height and width so I know if I'm in the ballpark?

Also, to get the most out of the splitter, is it better to have a more narrow taller opening, or a shorter wider opening?

My setup is a Home Depot special so I have flexibility.

Thanks

Rule of thumb - bigger for more air flow is better. Several other factors enter into the equation that effect airflow and cooling. Do you have a vented hood, have you removed weather stripping at the back of the hood allowing more air to escape, what position is radiator in - stock or tilted forward, stock or aftermarket dual core radiator??? Each item will cause changes in airflow and and result in a potential change in the size of the opening in your front splitter.

I think the ACP setup is 24" x 4" supposedly good to at least 475hp. Lots of variables in making an effective setup, but it is a starting point.

This weekend I can send you measurements for what did not work for me and what does work.

Don't count on that. I did some testing at a local track with small cloth strips taped to my hood and it appear that is a high pressure area and the air appears to be going back under my vented hood.

I sealed it off again.

Does anyone else here have corroborating or correcting information on the venting of air from the hood to windshield area?

I will see if I can find my video and post that.

I ran this set up with no issues at 376 RWHP.
Just be sure to box in and seal the opening to the front of radiator to ensure all of the air actually goes through the radiator

Doesn't surprise me, base of the wind shield is a high pressure area.

Unless you have a carb'd setup (eg, a Trans Am car), making an inlet vent at the base of the windshield is counterproductive for what most of us are trying to achieve.

Make it big enough so you can tape it down (NASCAR) to accomodate different track & seasonal temp conditions.

Rule of thumb. Opening should be 1/3 the area as the radiator core.

Less is better for aero, more is worse.

Mine is the same size as Dennis's and it never got about 196* yesterday at VIR with the outside temp at ~90*.

As Dennis says, the ducting to the radiator is key.
