I know I have. It is amazing how well you can get in tune with the car from the right seat. Different cars teach you a great deal about the nuances of a particular track. Sometimes our high HP and/or stiff suspension vehicles mask those nuances. Lower HP and softer suspension vehicles can really make the race line come into focus better. I have noticed fast guys are also instructors; not always, of course, but a great percentage of the time.

I am retired. I race. I instruct.
My home track is TWS and I enjoy and know the track well.
I have raced at CoTA twice in the SVRA National Championship Races.
Between 2013 and the 2015 races I instructed with a variety of groups. I learned much about the CoTA track, view, lines, braking and passing zones, and even maximum speeds for some long high speed turns like 16,17,18. Track entry fees are high ($450 to $750) and I (hopefully) learned much while instructing and did not have to pay those fees to drive the track while learning. Oh, and it is wonderful to observe whenever a student "gets it"

I'd love to instruct when I retire!
COTA is local to me but the prices are so very high.

That was the session from hell!
He'd have crashed dozens of times if it wasn't for the C7's technology.
He should have blown the motor when he went down to 1st and had it pegged for a second or two until he realized what had happened.
The flaggers should have black flagged him on lap #2.
And after all that "driving", he went soft on the banked turn allowing the P car to pull away every time...Go figure.

WOW. If I were on the track that driver would have been "talked to". If he said anything other then ,"it is my first time, I'm sorry, I didn't know", I would have ripped him out of the seat and kicked his ***. That video shows us non-instructors what they must face sometimes.

Trying to instruct from the right seat with no communicator is a waste even if that instructor knew what he was doing. He just risking his life for no reason. No way to control a new driver with out one. I will not ever instruct without one.

Hmm, Larry and Mo workin it together, or was that Curley driving. Pathetic, aside from the driver being pulled that instructor should be yanked and sent back to school. Darwin strikes, hope no-one gets hurt in the future and they both get some help. The hand gesture instruction was especially good. Did you notice how often the driver paid attention to it or saw it. At least he had some sense to be looking ahead somewhat aside from all the mirror driving. Hats off on the nannies GM.

Haha an old thread revived! I don't really come in here much anymore but pretty bored I guess!
Regarding the comment that there is no good instruction available for free, that is total nonsense. There are a lot of great people out there that want to help people learn. Don't forget that a great racer may not be a great instructor. At HPDE's the main factor is to teach the basics so people are safe and can have fun and get seat time. After they get the basics down they can proceed as they see fit.
Regarding the video it is hilarious, if I were in the right seat it would have been a very short one.

Yeah, I have noticed that. You travel more than a snippet of bad news nowadays. You really need to work at being a little more cognizant of those concerned. Let me know when you can fit the NCM MSP into your busy schedule. I got stuff to show you on a few turns.

Sorry, I thought I had downloaded it but can't find it now. It was totally hilarious except the terror of realizing it was real and this doofus could be on a track near you, except it was at AutoClub so only West Coasters have to worry.

I used to live in San Diego and visit the local tracks, so that could have been me on the "receiving end."
