C6 GS or C7 base with auto for HPDE's
I haven't been here in a while, but I'm looking for a replacement for my totaled 07 c6 auto. When I had time I'd do HPDE's 2-4 weekends a year.
I'd like to know if the C7 base has a very bad issue with EOil temps running 7ths for HPDE's?
Should I get a vette with F55 shock option?
Thanks v4kerker

Torque converters are not the best for track days. they generate a lot of heat and hard to cool. needless to say once the trans temp goes over 300* you can kiss your planetary clutch good by.

Johnny C I never had a problem with trans temp, car had TOC. The limiting factor on my C6 auto was engine oil temp. I only hpde on street tires I'm just out to have fun and not destroy the engine or drive Tran.

Just giving you my experiences, living in Texas though: driving my wife's vettes:
-'12 GS auto: limp mode in ~20 minutes
-'14 C7 Z51 auto: limp mode in ~12-15 minutes (this was on a relatively cool day as well)
You can always add additional trans cooling, check with LG Motorsports.

I guess any street cars going to need their cooling systems increased or modified for track fun.

Good to know Buddha. I haven't ruled out a manual, but I've only driven 1 manual car/bike since 2013😞. I guess I've gotten lazy over the years and 2 hip replacements don't help. I'm just glad I can get in the vetted still😂

Been tracking my 2010 GS A6 since it rolled off the line. The harder I drove, the more cooling it needed. Had no cooling problems last year for the 1st time after adding 2 trans coolers in place of the fog lights. Current cooling additions include 1) the 2 trans coolers 2) an EOC - all 3 from Setrab (stacked plate type) 3) DeWitts rad 4) Quantum brake ducts. On hot/humid days I probably could use one for the power steering.
Bottom line: you can do it but it will cost you.

I've got a mint 2012 grand sport for sale. Manual. Nothing overheats on track in 100 degree weather.

Mpss tires on it. Great car for a few track days a year.
Remember the manual grandsports get the z06 dry sump. Nice piece of mind as you progress to stickier tires.

Thanks for all the useful info guys. It sounds like the easy and best way is going Manual.
I guess it's true like all the long time trackers here say save you self money and just get a built track car.
I just hate molesting a car under warranty.

I run two coolers (stacked in front of the radiator) on my 6l80 and the temps stay around 160 to 170 in the middle of the summer. Stock it would be in the 200s within a few minutes
