EXACTLY.
Unfortunately, Liberty is hamstrung in what they can do.
NOTHING can be done without the support of the top teams...and all THEY care about is remaining "top teams."

Hello Bakou !
Bakou is a mixture of Sochi, Monaco and Canada with a long straight line, the longest of the season, 2,220 km.
We will have to find compromises to make a good tour, because it is an urban and fast circuit so any mistake has to be paid for in cash! This circuit has become an important meeting point of the championship and the SC will be out so the winner will not necessarily be the poleman but the one who has taken advantage of the opportunities. 2017 Bobo loses the race after riding on debris from the Ricci-Crashtappen confrontation, V4 misses his turn and allows the 2 Merco to take the lead after the green track after the SC, Ocon attacks Räikkö and destroys his FI and RoGro screws himself up like a big boy ! a race where you don't get bored in general.
Counterclockwise direction circuit
Baku is a completely different urban circuit: the aero, the brakes are more stressed and the speeds are higher while having little clearance, result, the slightest error is very expensive !
Specs circuit
Number of turns 20 (8 right, 12 left)
Longest straight line 2220 m, WOT during 24 secondes
DRS Zones 2
Stats
Average speed 205 km/h
Highest force g 3.4 (at turn 19 for 0"8)
Gear changes per revolution 72
Top speed approx. 329 km/h
Full load 54% of the lap
Pole position record 1'40"593 (Lewis Hamilton, 2017)
Race lap record 1'43"441 (Sebastian Vettel, 2017)
Strategy
Probability of Safety Car 25%.
Number of exceedances in 2018 50
Length of the stand track 390 m
Estimated duration of a pit stop 20,059
Victories from pole position 1/3
In the choice of tyres, Féfé was the most conservative team, it's very surprising!
Few abrasion problems but be careful, since the tires are less stressed, they will not heat up, the operating window will be delicate, especially at the exit of the pit, heated blanket at 80° C only. It is a bit fresh, 15°C in Europe right now after a sudden summer for a week.

Only point I disagree with is "enforce track limits". That's never worked well, IMO. You want to enforce track limits? Make that part of the track undesirable to race on (one aspect of the orange "ramps" that I like). Make the area behind the undesirable part something so a car is stopped safely, but put physical incentives in staying on track.
Have a good one,
Mike

They should i troduce a joker lap, something that adds 3 seconds or so for exceeding limits and also allows for an easy pass

The two Saubert C38s have had some minor electronics problems, as have the Féfés, and they will benefit from a change of ECU for this weekend in Baku.
As this will be the third change of this element on Giovi's car, it should be relegated to the back of the grid with a 10-place drop.
But with the new larger rear wings favouring the slightest drag, it will be very easy to pass in Baku, more than ever in the very long straight line of 2,220 km

Merco will use a serrated rear wing flange, already tested here last year. The Merco W10 also features a simplified T-wing shape, which has only one element, further reducing drag on the long straight line.
Russell is ill at the moment, his participation at this moment is not confirmed, Latifi has no super license, reserve driver, and Ghiotto has only done one F1 test so far... Ah Williams....
Oh...Leclerc, he continues to assert himself : when asked today in Baku about how he reacts to other instructions, he reveals that he may ignore some of them..

Bobo Williams Vmax/T Speed 2016 377 km/h.
Red flag
Russell Williams, diffuser exploded, the whole floor burst in the straight line S1, because like in Sepang, a drain plate was sucked in by the FW, very impressive incident, could more serious... Track closed. What does the FIA do for security checks? We'll have to review all the plates. Williams didn't need that, I hope the hull isn't damaged. Finally, the tow truck driver hit the roof of a passerelle, it's really a comic tragedy for the Azeris. Not serious. A lot of checks to do, I don't know if the FP will start again but given the frame, it will have to be changed

Because of the 2 very serious incidents, drain cover (screwed and non-welded) and the gateway, FP1 will not re start. 1st time I see that !!!
Only the Féfé did times. So a lot of C4 tyres for FP2

How in the world can the FIA NOT personally check the safety conditions of the track? It's not like this hasn't happened before; they KNOW that drains have to be welded. Heck, we've had welded drains break before.
You don't hear me say this often, but this is unexcusable, both from the track owners and the FIA.
Williams needs to get reimbursed for the losses they suffered.
Grrr.....

I agree totally about your comment ! it's "amateurisme" and inexcusable ! Fortunately, Leclerc has nothing but the drain cover began to lift up when he passed above it ! When you see the underside of the Williams, it's scary, the plate hit right under the pilot's butt. There is a French expression that falls well to quote : "to be warm in the buttocks" when something like this happens to you, he really had it, this Russell is blessed !
Hé les gars, I shall not be with you this week-end, just see a bit of FP2. I will go on a trip, I will partially follow the FP2 and leave before the end but I will follow the race and your comments! I will read you!
Save the wave and Vive la F1

I watched FP1 this morning getting ready for work, and the sight of that Williams sitting on a flatbed with hydraulic fluid running down the back half and puddling underneath was just tragically funny.
Charles, enjoy your weekend!

Someone needs to get fired.
Why the FIA doesn't weld them shut themselves is beyond me.

The kicker is seeing the truck bash the overpass.
Although good for the bottom line, this is why having GPs in the 3rd World is problematic for the sport.

Baku officials said the loose manhole cover had been caused by an "undetectable problem", which FIA race director Michael Masi said related to one of the underground clamps holding it down.
Undetectable problem, uh huh. Things do tend to go undetected WHEN YOU DON'T LOOK.
