I also run 30 min sessions so I probably have a bigger range. I normally do one 70% lap halfway through to save the tires if I do a full session.
Are you going off the DIC or an actual tire pressure gauge? I find the DIC is not very accurate. With my tire pressure gauge I find 36 PSI hot to be the ticket on my GS. But, then again my tire gauge may not be 100% accurate.
Also, I find the new R888R's wearing better than the R888's.

My DIC is within 1 (typically less) PSI of my gauge. I a digital and liquid filled. All three are always within 1 psi agreement.

What do you guys think i should do for a tire combo. 15, Z51 supercharged 600whp. I have R888Rs in the rear, toyo T1s in the front. Ill be replacing the T1s up front. I drive the car about 2k miles a year, ive never done auto x but considering it for next year. I do drag strip and aggressive street. Here's my question.
should i replace my fronts with Toyo R888Rs, $490 or a non run flat Michelin PSS, $501..?? Thanks for any advice.

What a difference a year makes. Just checked and same setup is $1212 after TOYO15 code. Use befrugal to link through and save another 6% or ~$1,140 net.

If you plan on doing any kind of turning don't mix and match tires.

335/30/18

$1052 free shipping. Not tax. + Another 63 dollars back from befrugal.

$989. Hell of a deal.

Correction. I got $90 back from befrugal.

So $962 total. Awesome.

Agreed. They'll heat up, heat cycle, etc at different rates. Good way to put your car into a wall/curb/pole/whatever because you got a lot over/under steer than you expected

I didn't realize people didnt know about rebates sites. I've gotten some PM's so here's the steps:

1) Follow the link below and if you're signing up for the first time you'll get $10 signing bonus and I will too. LOL
2) Sign up and join Befrugal
3) Once you've created an account search "SimpleTire"
4) Click the link marked "shop now" your visit will be recorded by befrugal
5) Wait for your rebate to show up. I use PayPal as my form of payment

https://www.befrugal.com/rs/NBDROTG/

Just caught up to Village Idiot's dislike of the R888R's. I don't share the feeling. I managed consistent 2:07's VIR full course in a non-Z07 equipped Z06. If not for an indecisive Dinan M5 I would've nailed a 2:06. As it is my 2:07 makes me 4th fastest on the list driving very conservative in several sections (i.e. 125/115 uphill esses). Suspect a 2:04 is very doable. The tread life, despite the 100TW rating looks to be very good. I'm guessing 8 full track days easy. The one thing I agree with VI on is the tire pressures. It took me 2 sessions to figure it out with some help from a buddy running 2:05's on them in his C6. Ideal for me and him on starting pressure:

25psi LF (right hand track)
26psi RF
29psi both rears

Way lower than I thought I needed to start at, but after a 1/2 lap of warmup, they're awesome. Hope that helps others. Not opposed to trying NT-01's next either.

What hot pressure were you seeing? I got about 1/3 life left in mine. I normally run 35 hot, might try a bit lower. That's a big difference in front and rear pressure.

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on NT01. I really like them a lot.
Did you run any tires other than R888R? I'm about 1.5-2 sec faster on SC2 despite the fronts being 30mm narrower.

I’ve run SC2, ZP and now R888R. The driver mod has been a steep learning curve so nothing really translates. I do know that:

1) Toyo’s are 1/2 the price of SC2’s
2) Toyo tread life, at least in track, seems to be better than both the SC2 and ZP
3) My time is the 4th fastest on the VIR fast list and I think the fastest non-Z07.
4) I’m am NOT the 4th best driver so car and tire are helping me big time.

Unfortunately I have no back to back emperical data to support any of my thoughts. I wish I had a set of each to test back to back, same track, temps, driver, etc. Not in my budget unfortunately.

I appreciate that this this can be a conversation as different cars, tracks and driving styles make some tires great and some not so great. I will say after my first session, the Toyo’s we’re so greasy I was ready to chuck them over the fence. When I pulled into the pits my front pressures were 39# and rears were 38#. No bueno. They seem to really like 29 - 33 and then you can abuse the heck out of them.

I definitely agree on R888R over Cup2. If nothing else, for safety. Cup2 will completely delaminate. It happens to all 4 of my tires.
I don't think the R888R is bad track day tire. If the NT01 didn't exist, I'd probably be running them.
I agree with pressure sensitivity. 34 hot is about as far as I'd let them go with 32 probably being ideal as you experienced. After 36 they're like iron.
They have a lot of tread void relative to NT01. I think that's the big difference.

Update us if you try the NT01!

My next set should be NT01s also. But 20 mm wider sizes so if I don't beat my time for 1-2 seconds then I'll be sad.

I doubt you'll drop 2 seconds, or close to it, from running NT01 20mm wider in the front. Difference from a good street tire to a slick is like 2 seconds and likely less at a short track like the 1.7. NT01 is a little faster, but not a lot faster, than the R888R. I think that even 1 second is a lot for a relatively minor compound change and 20mm wider on the front.

Let me dream. Consistency is good enough. If I hit a 1:22 there I'm happy. I also swapped springs remember.

Oh yeah. With all that stuff you might pick up some good time. If you're running the same size tires as me, you should definitely run faster than a 1:22. I think that's what I ran consistently and I don't have a blower. My buddy/instructor ran a low 1:20 when he took my car out for 3 laps

I may try the Nitto's next, but like you, once I fall in love with a tire it's hard to let go. I'd also add that dropping 2 seconds with a tire, other than going street tire to slick is highly unlikely with all other things being equal. I won't run a slick anymore just because I don't want the hassle of changing tires at the track. I also really like the feedback from the Toyo's. No surprises....including when I went off. LOL

I read a lot of forums comparing the two. Almost unanimously everyone loved NT01 over the R888R, which is why I tried them. I have to say, I agree.

Strangely, I really like them on my Miata. Not so much on my GS. I just dont think they have great feedback on the vette. IDK- could be in my head. It could be because I had Cup2 before them.
