Default Reviews - Carolina Motorsports Park

Trying to extend my season by traveling south a bit from my home on the Mason Dixon line. Looking at an event at Carolina Motorsports Park , Kershaw S.C.

I normally run at Pittsburgh, Summit Point, Mid Ohio, and occasionally VIR.

would appreciate comments / reviews / tips re CMP.

horrible track, go to Road Atlanta or Roebling Rd. I'm an hour away and haven't been there in 10 years

second that. Roebling is ok, don’t bother with Dominion in your area.

CMP is pretty abrasive. They did some grinding on parts of it and that helped to a degree, but it truly needs a repave.

It's a fun track and I like it a lot, but it's hard on tires.

This topic was prompted when I viewed some YouTube videos of CMP. And I thought: Hmmmm......

Looks like I may juggle my schedule and try to run a couple of weeks earlier with PCA at VIR.

Thanks guys.

What don’t you like about Dominion? I haven’t been there yet, but had been looking forward to it next year.

CMP will eat brakes and tires, too many squared off corners, a straight away that ends with a 45MPH left hand 90. Try AMP, big elevation, blind corners, or Roebling, big fast momentum track. There is also a track right at the NC/VA border off 95, NCCAR alot of symmetrical corners w/o barriers.

My friend in Raleigh was just talking about this place. It can be rented bare bones (no track support) for a weekday for under $5k. We're talking about renting it for a friends bachelor party for a small group of track guys. Then maybe go to VIR for a weekend event afterwards. According to the website beyond the track it has a skid pad and off road jeep trails. We can haul a smoker down there and have a pretty good time!

I took my C6Z to CMP once and I took the C7Z there once. Track eats tires and throws sand everywhere. I had to loosen the front splitter to remove sand particles that got between it and the fascia and between it and the end caps. Sand particles were lodged in the notch that forms where the rear spoiler attaches to the rear fascia and they were between the splitter and the wicker bill. The slicks were covered in sand. I was talking about it with a C6Z owner that I met there and he just said "You don't bring your best equipment here". The track design itself could stand some improved run off areas especially at the end of that long straight with the 90 degree turn. I don't know if the kink can be improved other than relaying out the track. It looks more like it was designed for cars that DO NOT get up to the speeds that Corvettes and similar cars of the past 20 years are capable of achieving.

Not a real fan of the track, but the kink at CMP is my favorite corner of any track that I've ever driven.

I second the sand. Your car will get sandblasted. Been years ago and don't plan on going back.
