I did a search and it seems the thing to do is have pull-down shoulder straps and pull-up lap belts, since there isn't much room with the console and door panels to pull down for the lap belts.
I ordered pull-down shoulders and pull-up laps, maybe install them this coming weekend so I'll tell you how it goes.
TeamTech has an entirely new and unique solution to this old question. Anyone who has ever done this knows that it is really hard to get the lap belt tight, we have all experienced sitting the car and having someone go through the passenger side and tug the inboard lap belt and then go around and tug the outer belt to get it tight. This seems to be true with all brands of conventional lap belts. TeamTech has a new(er) lap belt that is a double loop (like a block and tackle or hoist) around so that you have 2x mechanical advantage. So, this way, you you can do it yourself and get it tight like it should be. The nice thing is that it can be added to existing TeamTech harnesses!

Yea, that's my thinking, The shoulder belts are pull downs and the lap belts are pull ups so I'll have enough room and leverage to pull them tight.
I have pull down lap belts and as the others have said, they are a real pain, especially with my high side bolstered racing seat. I essentially had to set them without me in the car. Now that they are set, I never mess with them.
I have the pull down shoulder and pull up lap from team tech. I would buy them again in a second. The lap belts on my last set up were next to impossible to adjust. Although once the lap belts are adjusted I dont mess with them a lot, these are much easier in the race seat.

I think pull up lap belts and pull down shoulder belts are the best way to go. That way, you don't have to worry about the seat getting in the way for the lap belts.
I don't know about you guys, but I reset my belts every time I strap into the car. I lock the harness first and then crank down the belts until I simply can't pull any more. If you can latch the belts, they're too loose.
While not disagreeing that they need to be tight, mine are tight. Trust me, I have to pull like heck and suck it in to get it to latch. Wouldn't have to do that if had bought pull up lap belts.
I have 6 point pull downs. Yes the lap belts are a bit tough to get snug. I put the belts on and get them as tight as I can then move the set up 1 in.
I am wondering if the pull up lap belt would have extra belt ( after the slide ) that would get into the way where as the pull down belt can be tucked behind the seats.

There's one thing you can do, however, that makes things quite a bit easier. Set your belts at the beginning of the day, then from that point on don't loosen the inboard lap belt (right for driver side, left for passenger). I find it much easier to get things tightened down from the door side than to do both.
My harnesses with the pull up lap belts came in yesterday and the B-K bar should be in shortly, so I'll start installation when all the components arrive.
In answer to your question, Tom, about the excess belt above the slide, it appears there will be much of it. It sould be easy enough, though, to tuck it somewhere out of the way.
I noticed on all of the belts' date tags is the manufacture date was punched as July '04. Hmm..I wonder how that could be, it's only May on my calendar? There was an expiration date on one that had 2008 on it. Does anyone know how long belts are good for until replacement is necessary? Sounds like 4 years according to the tags on mine.
Brad, I will give you a good deal on a TeamTech. I would love to sell you a Virginia class SSN, but the best Harness is as good as I CAN DO!
Gary, I'll probably replace my belts at the end of this season and will give you a call, thanks.
In the meantime, keep working on the Virginia class thing for me. :flag

SCCA published an article on this recently. I don't remember the specifics and I don't have the article handy, but it went something like this:
- The elasticity of the belts erodes over time based on several factors, including type of material, exposure to sunlight, environment, use, number of cycles, etc.
- In some cases, they eroded to below sanctioned standards fairly quickly (like not much over a year).
The number that stuck in my head was to change them out after this season, which for me would be two years.
I was cautioned once regarding pull up lap belts. If you are using them with a racing seat (holes for the lap belts to pass through,) be sure the adjusters are inside the seat frame, not outside. The thought was that if the belt was stretched (like in a collision), the adjusters could actually be triggered by the seat frame and the belts could loosen.
