Go to the Mr. Gasket site (www.mrgasket.com), click on the Mallory icon at the bottom, and view/print the Unilite distributor installation instruction wiring diagrams.

The Mallory requires a coil with a min of 1.4 ohms and a max of 3 ohms measured across the + and - terminals on the coil. If you have less then 1.4 ohms you will need an external ballast to bring the total resistance up to 1.4 but less then 3 ohms. I recommend you use a Pertronix Flamerthrower coil that has 1.5 ohms and not use an external ballast. You want the primary resistance to be as close to the 1.4 ohms as the coils spark energy decreases as the primary resistance increases.
The brown wire connects to clean engine block ground, the green wire connects to the - terminal on the coil and the red wire connects to the + terminal on the coil. If you elect to use a ballast to increase the primary resistance, the red wire should then be connected to the 12v side of the ballast.

I think Mallory recommends to run it thru the ballast however I've got it on the good word.. I have mine run direct to 12v... No problems for the last two years and about 7k miles... Dave..

About 30 years here and many more miles with no problems. No maintenance, no point adjusting, no point float, no hassle.
