Have been looking for an original jack for my 1965 and have seen conflicting information regarding which jack my car originally came with. VIN number of my car is 107961. Corvette Central catalog says Type I jacks went until VIN 12000 in 1965. Chicago Corvette catalog says Type I jacks went until VIN 12164. Paragon catalog says Type I went until only VIN 7100.
Please help me find the "correct" answer as I don't want to purchase the wrong jack.
Forget the catalogs - what does your NCRS Judging Guide say is the correct jack for your VIN? That's the standard against which it will be judged, not against what it says in a vendor catalog.
Thanks for the response, but I don't have an NCRS judging manual. I am not looking to have the car judged, but I want to purchase the correct jack as my car retains most of it's original date coded parts, and the correct jack would be a nice addition.
So, does anyone have a 1965 NCRS judging manual they could look at to decifer this mystery?
Thanks for posting that info. Unfortunately, it still doesn't address at what VIN they went from the Type I jack to the Type II jack , and that is my question. Guess it is a mystery that will never be solved!
I looked over Noland Adams' Vol 2 last night and he is pretty much silent on giving any Vin numbers for Jack changes. What he does say is that those changes were all over the map (my words not his) during the mid years. Here's a direct quote "Considering all the variations and the possible combinations, one may realize how researching an item such as a 193-67 jack assembly would be nearly impossible".(pg. 105).
I can send you a PDF file of the appropriate pages if you don't have the book.
I believe that the change took place in February of '65, there is no definite cut and dry time. I can tell you this, I have a very original, low mile '66 (#1649) and it has an early '65 jack with one bearing instead of the type with a plastic bushing and a washer on either side. I feel that it is the original jack for my car, but at the NCRS Regional in Waco the judges felt that my early '66 could not justify the early '65 jack. No big deal, only a few points lost. I'm sure that the early style could have been in the inventory well into March.
