Default Originality Question???

I know that this question has been asked a zillion times, but I am in hopes that someone will not mind answering it again. I have just purchased a 67 427/400hp 4-speed Corvette Convertible. The car has no paperwork but the numbers on the engine and transmission match the vin. Are there other things besides the broach marks that you can look for to determine what actually came in the car for an engine and whether it is truely an L36 or not? Thanks

The 427/400hp car is a L68. Same motor as the 390hp L36 except it had the 3X2 carb system. What is the engine stamp number?

I guess what I am really asking is there a way to tell if the car was an original big block and not a small block. This is assuming, like everyone says, that just about all big block Corvettes without Documentation are restamps. Thanks

Let me rephrase my question.

Can anyone tell me some identifiers that you would look for on a 67 Corvette, other than the engine pad stamping, that would indicate that the car was a big block and not a small block? Thanks.

The T1208JC is a 427/400hp w/3X2BC & 4-speed. Guys who make the changes from sb to bb now are real sharp and make it hard to tell the difference. Get ahold of someone from the ncrs in your area and have them look at the car. At least they can put you in the right direction locally.

I can't answer those questions without looking at the car which is not here where I am at this time. What should I be looking for so I can check later?

I live up the coast in Maine and am not sure if there is an NCRS chapter near here.

Thanks.

If I you don’t mind telling did you pay the premium for the car, a little below average. Or some cheap price

I guess you would have to give me the $ ranges that indicate premium, above average, average and cheap as I really don't know what they are.

All these things can be changed to make it appear as a factory BB. But, Oil Pressure Gauge, Tach Red Line, Half - Shaft Caps, I think fuel line, TI Ignition or remnants, hood hinge on driver or pass side and as in other threads...St. Louis or A.O. Smith body ?

TTT

I'm still hoping that someone will give me specific things to look for that would indicate whether or not my 67 Corvette Convertible is a Big Block or a Small Block. It has the matching numbers 427/400 block and transmission but no documentation. However, after reading many posts on this site regarding matching numbers, I simply am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

frist off was your car body built at A.O smith or at St. Louis. that info can be found on the trim tag. what is the dia. of the front sway bar. is there a rear sway bar. Like I said before does the pass. inner fender have holes or looks of where holes once was. descirbe the carb linkage outside the firewall. what type of U joints do you have. what is the casting numbers ,and numbers stamped on your rear end.

well seeing how your body was built in St. Louis. it has a good chance of being real. but that was a 50/50 chance

You could also check the rear axle code. The following would be BB related for 67: AT AU AZ FA FB FC and the following SB related for 67: AK AS AL AM AN AO AP.

I did.

I traded my 69 GTO Judge plus some cash for the car. Does anyone here know anything about this car? The person I purchased the car from seemed very honest.

Sorry, wish I could help. I did see it on ebay and it looks like a very solid car. The pad looks quite good, but as others have said, that's not enough to verify originality anymore. I'm sure others will have some more things for you to check once they see more detailed pics of the car. Congrats on your purchase!
