Several years later I too can see the humor and I took no offense at all from bluestripes post nor meant one by the tapping foot

The info shared from the other owners is first rate as is the comrade.

This thread has been very interesting.

I guess what worries me, is when the time comes(just around the corner)to have my 435 block rebuilt. When I bought this 67 project and I mean "project", I had several pros along with myself, exam the stamped pad on the block among other opts. After checking the casting surface, the milling marks, etc, the end result was, the #'s "appeared" to be original.
I didn't ever plan to fix & sell and still don't. I am planning to put this one on display now and then(yes I will drive it too). So anyway, I just wanted a piece of mind when I display the car.
I'm on the 8th year of my resto and my goal is 2 yrs left to completion. I know "Bubba" and his "off spring" have had their paws inside this engine before, in fact now that I'm thinking about it, their droppings have been found everwhere!!!
I am having the full meal deal done to this engine. The worry I've always had is what exactly should I do if the engine builder tells me the block needs to be decked. I suppose I would doc. the old #'s someway for proof. Maybe I don't even have a worry, just not sure yet. I'm sure others of you though have been through this before and I was wondering what steps you took to prove the block was original to the car. Thanks Craig

Shurshot,
Sorry, didn't mean to Hi Jack your thread.

If the engine is sound and running why in the world would it ever have to be decked?

If it were found to be slightly off, wouldn't it be better to just leave it alone and live with it? I mean, it was running before...

Unless you think you're going to race it and need that last 1/100th of a second, why worry if something is 10/1,000ths out of square? Put a thicker gasket in there and call it good.

If it truly won't seal then somehow they'd have to protect the stamp pad and not mill over it.

Can one determine if a block has been decked by measuring the crankshaft centerline to deck distance? If the original tolerances for the machined block casting were tight enough, this might be a way to authenticate an original block. Also, anyone have any experience in determining original frame serial numbers that have been removed from stolen vehicles? Thanks.
