Default Midyear Bumper Question

My bumpers now are one of the weakest visual points on my car. For whatever reason, they are quite wavy. Is this common? What would cause this. They don't appear to have ever been repaired.

that's pretty normal. About 3/4 of the C2 bumpers i've seen have some waviness in them. The only difference seems to be the degree of it varies from bumper to bumper

Barry is right that most original bumpers have at least some waviness usually most noticeable where the inner bumper mounts are welded to the bumper. Some of the after-market bumpers I've seen may have more waves as many seem to use a thinner steel. If you have the original bumpers re-chromed they can remove some or all of that if that is what you want. It depends on what you want and whether or not you intend to enter the car in NCRS events.

The waviness generally results from the metal being overworked when they are rechromed. The person rechroming them either applied too much heat when repairing rust holes and pits or didn't sand the cores evenly with the belt sander.
