Just thought of probably the dumbest question that would ever ask on the forum, but here goes. I have owned my '61 for over 35 years and have enjoyed every minute of owning and driving it. Now i'm in the process (sloooow)of upgrading things that have needed attention for some time. A new dash pad is one of the things in the future I want to do or have done (haven't decided yet which). To make a long story short, I know for a fact that an even 50,000 miles was taken off the odometer by the dealer i bought the car from back in 1971 (he admitted it knowing I was going to talk with the original owner) and now I'm thinking about "putting them back on". Can this be done while I have the cluster out and is it a very difficult job. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Wib
It is VERY easy to do with the speedo out.
4 Screws hold the bezel to the rear pan of the speedo then you have the speedo face(2 screws) you can even do it without taking the needle off. Next is a small clip holding the odometer wheel in,take the odometer and twist the miles to what you want and your done.Reverse to put it back together.
When you get ready email me I'll be glad to help you.
J oliver - thanks for the advice. I will keep your email handy for when I get started on this. It's still a ways off, but I will eventually get to it. thanks again! And Sting ry, don't think I didn't see how ironic it was to be putting milage BACK on the ol' odometer.I know you are right that those used car dealers are laughing their a** off now! Take care guys

This math stuff is too confusing. If I added 50,000 miles, it would show 50,000 fewer miles than it has now. If I added 13,000, it would show 87,000 less. I'm confused; think I'll leave mine alone.
GCD1962- Current reading is 49542, so adding the 50000 will have it turn the 100000 soon which will start things back at zero obviously. In theend ,as someone pointed out," more will be less" when I do this. Damn, it is confusing isn't it! Anyway, just the fun of owning an old Vette I guess. Thanks for asking. And Gonefishn- Thank you for the kind remark. I do hope another opportunity comes along for you and a '61 to get together. They are fun to have. Wib
