Oh what a difference (ride Quality)
A couple of weeks ago I posted about my 62 joltwagon. ...the ride was simply awful. I removed the traction bars that were loading the springs
put in new poly bushings in the spring hangars and lubed the spring leafs...that made a lot of difference but still left some to be desired ...
Well this morning I just put on a set of rear Edlebrock performance dual valve gas shocks....OH what a difference....no more jolt and it handles better to boot. The best of both worlds. I guess the cheep azz shocks I had were the main problem. Its still no ZO6 but the ride is now no jolts but firm and very little body roll in the corner. I still do not have the rear sway bar installed...I have it ready to go on.
The Edlebrock shocks are expensive...but darn well worth it in my book.
Thats my report. Get the best shocks you can buy!

what leaf springs do you have?
I have the same problems, want the good shocks also, but I have used the five leaf springs, I dont think I am happy with them, really makes the care oversteer big time. How did you "Lube" the springs

I got the Poly bushings last year down at Knoxville....I cant remember the supplier. I just had not had time to install. If I remember I will post.
The shocks are Edlebrock 34039 for the rear. They are classic IAS shocks and yes they are a direct bolt on. Edlebrock also makes 33039 for the front. I do not have these but I will be getting them soon. They are pricy....about $90 each.
I have stock 4 leaf springs.
I lubed the springs by jacking up the car and using motor oil between the leafs...my spring liners are gone.
Just got back in from a drive today...what a great day in KY and no sore back!

Hmmm... I was just about to buy the Monroe shocks. What to do, what to do.
I havent tried this yet but I saw a clip from that 62 rolling resto on DIY network where they lubed the rear springs spreading on heavy grease and then wrapping in duct tape. Drive for a few weeks and remove, should be well worked in between each leaf. He mentioned they used to make something commercially called "gators" for that same purpose. Seems reasonable so I am gonna give it a shot.

I installed Monroe Sensa-tracs all around on my 62 and the ride is very good with radials. I looked into the Edelbrock shocks, but the cost was just not worth it.

I may want to replace my Monroe Gas shocks since it's been at least a decade. My rear jumps around if there are gaps on turns.

I was watching a TLC program and saw a commercial about Edelbrock, and Vic was in his own shop tauting his new high tech machinery for manufacturing and testing his shocks. Some kind of machine that is the latest and only he has.

I have a set of the Edelbrock IAS shocks on my 65. They are not cheap, but they are worth every penny and bolted right up.
The car rides great and corners very well. They work as advertised.
PS - You need to do all four at the same time.

Could someone explain how it makes such a big difference? I just replaced my 64's shocks with gas charged Delco(s). I have the touring 7 leaf rear and the 460lb. coil fronts. It rides so stiff it literally tears things apart if I'm not on a track with smooth surface. Of course, I think they were $120 for the whole set.
