Steering Column Assembly Question
Re-assembled ...then realized I forgot to put my new turn signal lever on ... I took it back off.
Then I noticed the AIM shows the brush with the large 'button end' facing down after I put it back together..hmmm..lemme look at that again... back off it came...no WAIT ...the AIM is wrong! The brush goes with the button side UP.
Is the AIM wrong very often?Put the column back together AGAIN and the top hub and the bottom housing do not line up properly, almost no gap on one side and at least 1/8" on the other ... the edges are not in LINE with each other... ???
Also the main housing ...now flexes up and down in relationship to the main tube that goes down under the dash as well.
The thing lined up pretty well before I took it apart. Got any ideas on what is making this so ****-eyed?
I have no info for ya, but have my column out right now and am going to freshen up the paint, so I am WITH you in spirit and certainly watching for the helpful advice I hope and expect you will receive
I guess the bearing is just ever so slightly worn, but the squeak has GOT to go....
It sounds like maybe the mast jacket retainer is not pulling up tight and causing some alignment problems with the turn signal switch housing if I understand your description correctly. Send me your e-mail address(es) and I can send some pics of my 65 column assembly. I went through this last year. The tip about the LIC catalog is a good one. Their exploded diagrams are helpful.

Good luck.

Maybe someone will correct me - I think you can adjust your steering wheel back and forth 1" or so. Move it forward if you want a little clearance getting in and out of the car or to your likening.
