Default Cluster Removal Question

I'm planning on removing my cluster and having my speedometer rebuilt-Could someone post the type and length of threaded rod required to slide the cluster on? Any other hints would be appreciated-Thanks

I just went back to look at the posts I saved, and the one I have suggests a 5" long bolt, bit did not suggest a thread.

But I do seem to remember JohnZ saying he used 1/4"-20 all thread, if memory serves correctly???

1/4 x 20 is the correct answer. I use 6 inch long shoulder bolts lightly lubed. This way the "threads" don't cut into the dash.

I use 1/4"-20 x 6" bolts, with the heads cut off and the ends rounded; they have a short threaded section, so you can tighten them up in the U-nuts to the end of the threads so they're tight and don't sag or wobble.

I bought the bolts several weeks ago after reading a thread on the cluster removal and intend on starting soon but still am not clear on where the long bolts should be installed so the cluster can be held on them while being disconnected. Would appreciate some more info on this part of the removal if possible.....thanks...dave

As you remove the 5 screws that hold the cluster in place you replace them 1 at a time with the 1/4 - 20 all thread.
