Default Wiper Motor DIY Rebuild

I'd like to take a crack at rebuilding my Wiper Motor/Washer Pump. I was wondering if anyone knows of online instructions similar to the headlight motor rebuild pdf that was so helpful? I have the shop manual but some better photos would be great. Awesome site BTW.

Thank You in advance for any replies.

I rebuilt mine ('64) using the instructions in the service manual. Didn't need anything else.

Good idea to rebuild/refresh the wiper motor assembly. I did mine a couple of months ago. The wiper motor assembly in my car only required a refresh. The old grease was cleaned out of the gear drive and was replaced with new lube; electric motor commutator and brushes were cleaned.

Beware removing the motor housing! .. It's a BEAR to reinstall the housing back over the stator while keeping the brushes separated enough to allow the commutator to slide in between these brushes and also seat into the rear bearing. The tool that is shown in the CSM holding the brushes apart didn't work - at least, in my case .. .. The problem is; once the motor housing is slid back over the stator there's no way to remove the brush separator tool. It's a tight fit - there's just no clearance! ..

A small pair of dividers with the end points bent outwards to capture, spread, and hold in place the copper brush wires (and the brushes themselves) is what worked, for me.

Dividers? = pointy ^ for measuring/marking distance on maps.

Keyboard is not sketch friendly.

I've rebuilt many an electric motor- use a paperclip to hold the brushes in place while you put it back together.

I understand with alternators you can use the paperclip trick, but
with the wiper motor, there is no hole in the casing to do this.

67L36Driver do you mean something like a compass but both ends
are pointy(no pencil at the other end).

Here is the paper-clip trick I used on my wiper motor..
you just use log needle nose or something similar to remove the clips as the shaft get seated between the brushes. I suppose a piece of wire or string would work too.

Dividers .. ? .. They are a V-shaped device similar to a compass - straight legged style without the pencil holder. I tried making several 'tools' that could possibly work (they didn't) to keep the motor brushes spread apart and still be removable while sliding the motor housing back over the stator. I just happened to have an old pair of dividers lying around and that is how they came into use. They were the perfect size and had enough spring pressure of their own to counteract the motor brush spring pressure and hold them far enough apart.

With the motor brushes spread apart and held in place by the dividers the motor housing itself can be slipped over the stator just far enough forward so that the commutator is far enough rearward to accept the brushes - once the dividers are removed.

Gary, if you can't find a suitable set of dividers to do this job let me know. I can send you mine, if you want ..
