Default Adding Mods & changing true value

I have a 66 327 coupe. I'm in the 1st stage of a restore paint job. I plan on taking the car down to glass & painting original color and putting on the gold wall tires. This coupe is a #'s matching car I did replace the carb and starter. My question is I love the stinger hood. What would I do to the value of this car by adding a stinger hood.
Should I do it & would you?
Thanks
Jim

No problem as long as you have the original hood repainted at the same time as the rest of the car and keep it so a potential buyer has a choice.

First, I believe in the "if it's your car do what you want to it" philosphy.

That being said: I also like the stinger hoods, BUT on a 427 only. It was the badge of the BB, and to copy it, in my opinion, cheapens the SB.

It would definitely dimenish the overall value of your car.

But again, it's what your intentions for the car are, are you going to keep it and drive it or resell?

Do what's best for you.

w/everything you say. I would do it but I don't want a clone or anyone saying its a clone. I'll keep the original hood on. someday I will have my BB vert w/the stinger hood.
Thanks

Key to me is that you "love" the Stinger. Who cares what some self righteous snob thinks? It's not a clone..that would be making it a big block car...it's a nice small block car with a great looking big block hood. Big deal...looks great!

I'd do as suggested...I'd buy a stinger and paint them both. It would be the best of both worlds!

If you decide to sell it you're all set. You won't lose any money, and while you own it, it will set your heart pumping a little faster everytime you walk outside and see that hood!

Do the hood and keep your old one.
Enjoy your car!

I just changed my 66 small block hood to a 66 big block hood. It's an aftermarket hood from one of the major suppliers. I have the small block hood and it will be painted along with the big block hood and the rest of the car. There was some difficulty getting the gaps right on the BB hood. We made the hood fit the car and not the car to fit the hood. All the gaps are right now. Now if I swap the SB hood back on the car it will also fit the car. Just a heads up.

The stinger hood really sets off the car. It would look great and I really don't believe that it would alter the price of the car as long as you are not presenting it as a survivor or gold car. If you decide to sell the unit at a later time, the buyer can decide if they want the original back on it or not. So, do what you want to do, don't let anyone else make your decision for you.

My L-79 has had the stinger hood on it since before 1970.....

if you like the hood, go ahead and put on on the car. Most aftermarket hoods can be bought with the hood prop on either side, so you will not have to modify anything on the car.

Jim,

Got a good suggestion from a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago about painting the BB hood stinger and the little piece on the front surround. He suggested using a decal on the surround so no paint work would be needed if you ever wanted to reinstall the small block hood.

Do the BB hood, even if you don't paint the stinger.

Sorry Jim, I was 3 and just can't remember

if you are worries about extending the stinger stripe onto the nose, you can not paint it like on my car, or I have seen it where they blow the stinger color over the clear on the nose, with the thought that wetsanding can remove the color without damaging the body color underneath.......

There is a stinger hood scoup on ebay for $75 that do you guys think.
I could install & paint to match the body.

nah, there is more work involved in making a hood out of peices, plus odds are that you will destroy your original hood in the process

pm member corvetteworx , they sell the same body panels the catelog companies sell, at deep discounts......

oh look, a group purchase on panels
