HELP!!
I am in the process of getting my AC system back to functioning as it did when it rolled off the line (I am looking to restore, not replace, things). I am on the hunt for a rebuild kit for the compressor because I figure it is a smart thing to do while I have the thing apart. Problem is that I am having a hell of a time finding the parts to do it. There is a guy in my local Corvette club who could do the work if only we could track down the rebuild kit.
Thanks for the pointer, John, and the website, Glen. Looks like Classic Auto Air is the place. Only problem is that they do not sell a "kit" so we'll have to get the compressor open and see what needs replacing and order those pieces individually.
At a minimum, I ordered the seal and front bearing. My hope (realistic?) is that replacing these two pieces will do the trick.
Side Note: They have good tech help. I asked if they were sending the Carbon or Ceramic seal and Curtis, the guy that helped me, said "Both. That way you can replace it with whatever comes out of it. Our experience is that a good rule to follow is to relace apples with apples and oranges with oranges."
That said...John, do you recommend the ceramic seal even if a crbon one comes out?

I don't have any personal experience one way or the other, but folks who know far more than I do about A-6 compressors and work with them every day tell me the GM ceramic seal is FAR more reliable than the cheaper carbon seal most of the rebuilders use.
