When I installed mine, I had luck with putting one end of the spring in a vise and putting about a half dozen wood shims (get them at Lowes or Home Depot) between the coils by bending it some by hand and alternating the sides of the coil the shims were being placed in. This expands the spring Then crawl back under the closed lid....removing the driver seat makes this alot easier...and install the springs on the lid. When you open the lid, the shims will come out easily. Worked for me...
You can also do a search on this forum for a tool used for removal posted by Nassau66427 but I'm not sure whether it would work for reinstalling.... Good Luck...dave

Here's the tool I quickly made out of a piece of 2" exhaust pipe. To reinstall, I streched the spring and slipped the tool onto the spring. It worked like a champ. I tied the spring between two trees [talk about Bubba]at a height of about 2 feet, stepped on the rope to stretch the spring and slipped the tool on.

I've heard that they can be a real bear, when I installed new ones on mine last year I expected the worst but I was able to just pop them on with a pry bar. I think I got lucky. Twice.

I used my biceps and a shelf. Put onehook attached to the shelf and put an s hook on the other end of the spring to pull against. ONce i pulled the spring into place I simply let it go and let the s hook sit under the spring. THen i cut the other end of the s hook with a pair of bolt cutters and the s hook slid right out and let the spring end go right into place.

Anyone try a comalong? That should do the trick, no muscles, and then some shims to keep the spring spread apart. disconnect the comalong, and instal, then pull the shims.
