I hope to soon to replace the wiring on my 1960 with the new wiring harness I purchased from Vette Gal. It's made by Lectric Limited. However my Vette currently has an aftermarket iginition switch and adhoc wiring...
I have a wiring diagram for a 1960, however I need to know where the wires connect to on the ignition switch. There is a red, purple (14 gauge), violet, brown and another purple (18 gauge). On the diagram they show were they connect to on a proper ignition switch but the connections are marked (start, accessories, on, etc)... I suspect the red is from the battery.
Ken,
Looking at the ignition switch the harness has a 3 slot plug with the middle
slot connecting to battery post on the switch. The left side of the plug slot goes to the ignition post of the switch. The right side goes to the solinoid post on the switch. Looking at the plug the middle slot is lower.
There are 2 pink wires . One goes to the Accesary post, the other to the ignition post. The accessary wire is 14 guage and the 18 guage is to the ignition post.

PS You might consider getting a repro switch. I think Danchuk makes them. You need a repro for the Delco 577 switch.

Ken,
Im looking at the owners manuel (62 ) and I see the following
Brown goes to the ignition post (on)
Violet goes to the solenoid post (start)
Red to the battery post
2 pink wires 14 gauge to ACC - 18 gauge to ignition post.

The 2 pink wires on my wiring harness both appear to be the same gauge. I would guess 16 or 18 gauge. Maybe by 1962 the upped the gauge on one of the pink wires. How can I tell which pink wire is what?
The pink wires can go on either way (ACC or Ignition post) and the switch will work. However if the turn signal works with ignition switch off you should reverse the positions.
The wiring diagram in the owners manuel covers the entire car but it is not color coded and the detail is very small.A forum member, Don Olson, sells
a detailed color coded schematic that I hear is the best.
Is Don's diagram like the one in the Corvette repair manual but in colour or does it show more detail, like isolated-detailed diagram of the ignition switch, solenoid switch, etc...???
The Olson schematic is poster size and color coded. It is much easier to follow and has corrected the original error of the amp gauge connections.
If you re going to install a under the dash harness his schematic will make the job so much easier. The layout I think is the same as the St-12.
Send me your e-mail and I'll send you some pics from Don Olsen's diagram that I picked up for my 60. Files are too large to post here. If your e-mail allows, I can send larger files.
Here is a small pic of the ignition switch portion. The pink/blacks go to a common terminal on the switch. One of those goes out to the ballast resistor on the firewall and the other goes to the top spot on the fuse panel according to the diagram. They are both 18 gauge.
Hope this helps a bit.
DZ
P.S. Don's diagrams are very helpful. Suggest you pick one up if you are going to be rewiring your car. Shameless plug!
