My 65 396 runs great (idle, power, secondary all perfect) except when running steady under 2500 rpm she loads up excessively , by loading up I mean a steady rpm increase/decrease of about 200 to 300 RPMs , releasing the throttle or increasing throttle and she is steady.
I remember lots of muscle cars seeming to do this and assume it may just be something I have to live with or keep those revs over 2500.
By the way I believe a high performance Isky cam is in this engine and she does run supper strong.
Could be the power valve going south, or the wrong one installed for your combination; they're vacuum-sensitive, working against a spring, and don't last forever.
Is the "loading up" like a "surging" or light miss? Sometimes a combination of two much mechanical and vacuum advance at steady engine speeds above whatever your full mech advance comes in at, causes this (too much total advance). Giving it gas drops some vacuum off and smooths it out. Letting off the gas slows the engine speed and pulls in some of the mechanical advance and smooths it out. If the plugs are loading up and fouling - it gives you a perfect excuse to dust them off with a couple good runs.

Surging, no miss, I'll play with the timing this week end and see what happens.
Thanks for the sugestion!
