I am going to replace my rusted out frame which is still under my car. I found a 63 frame for sale from a private party and was wondering if the identification numbers stamped on the frame are factory original. The guy who is selling it has a title, but the frame is not stamped with the complete Id number. It includes only an S then six numbers. The title includes includes 30867 in front of the S and the numbers. Did the factory only put the S and the numbers on the frame instead of the complete Id number. Its my understanding the S represents the factory identification which is St. Louis. Its also my understanding that the 30867 represents the model year, type of car which is a vette and the body style, which is convertable. Is this how they stamped the frame at the factory to include only the plant identification and the six numbers or has this been altered? Thanks!.

I don't know if it is legal, but when I purchased my replacement 63 frame the supplier told me that many restorers cut the numbers from the original frame and have them welded and the dressed into the new frame.
I cut out the old numbers from the original frame, but did not have them welded to the new frame.
The photo is not detailed enough to see the "1" & "6" stamps as they are not like modern stamp numbers (this "quality" photo was taken with the tire & body on the frame).
